[announcement] MusicCabinet 0.7.18beta1 released

Postby hakko » Thu Dec 27, 2012 10:41 am

I've been doing some work on the app interface in MusicCabinet. News:

  • Artwork for top tracks/artist radio/genre radio
  • Supports starring via the API, for example from MiniSub (I bundled the latest MiniSub in this release, available via /minisub)
  • Allows browsing your library by folder instead of by tags (your library still needs to be scanned for this to work)
  • When browsing by directory, videos are exposed too for streaming. I don't know if this works though, probably not. Feedback on this is welcome!

Also, it includes the change from yesterday so that only album artists are shown in random/recently played artist, if "Album artist filter" is set to Yes.

If anyone feels like testing it, it can be downloaded from here: EDIT: download beta2 instead! see below
To use it, stop your server, replace subsonic.war with the linked one, and start your server again.

If it doesn't work as planned, you can go back by using http://dilerium.se/musiccabinet/subsonic.war instead (that's version 17 from a couple of days ago).

Make sure to clear your app cache if using this (in iPhone, drag the artist/album list downwards / in Android, switch between media folders to force reload) as I changed the format for it slightly.

thanks, something to check out!

EDIT: will there be a tomcat release of the beta or is that too much to ask? :)

I just made some progress. Forget beta1, now we're at beta2. I can browse my library using the Android client, and it lists video files (I used a .avi file). If I click that .avi file, it opens in a web browser which displays metadata, but doesn't stream.. I guess because of Flash. If I open the same URL in a web browser from my computer, I can stream it:

Could anyone who uses HLS tell what it's supposed to look like using that technology? I don't have the latest iSub to test with so that's why I'm posting here.. hoping to reach those who are actually interested in this (I'm not : )

Hi Hakko,

Just tested beta2 with iSub. The genre radio album artwork is there now, Yay! I don't use subsonic for video but tested m4v and mp4 files, screen went blank but neither file streamed. Now just need smart playlists and can pretty much leave iTunes behind. Thanks so much for your continued updates, much appreciated :)

Hi Hakko,

Been away for a week and come back to this, just awesome! Video streams fine for me on my Samsung Galaxy S3. I use a non-rooted phone but sideloaded (not sure if that's the correct term) the flash player apk as GJ51 recommended in another thread. When I select a file to stream I choose firefox and it allows me to start streaming and watch the file! The only bad news is that when I hit the expand button to fill the screen on jwplayer the sound continues but the image gets lost, when I hit back, the screen goes back to the smaller size and carries on playing.

Really like the extended search feature and the ability to browse by folder on the app. Good work there sir! Especially seeings as nobody seems bothered to add disc number properly to the mobile apps. I can now listen to my multidisc compilations properly and still gain all the benefits that musiccabinet brings in tag based mode. I've only been using for 30 mins or so but must say I'm very impressed with the work that you've done here. I'll report back if I find any quirks or problems with the release.

Happy 1 year anniversary, God only knows where you'll be able to take this in the next year ;)
