[feature request] Artist name sorting

Currently, an artist name like "John Lennon" always appears below letter J in the left frame.

There's tag called "sort artist" in FLAC/ID3 v2.3, so that a user can tag songs to indicate that they should be sorted in another way, for example "Lennon, John".

MusicCabinet doesn't yet support this tag. This topic will be updated when that feature is implemented.

Thanks a lot Hakko ;-) - I stayed with you, the enhancement to plain subsonic is really fascinaiting - and will start to add the sorting fields.
By the way I found a little strange behaviour, wenn I scrobble to last.fm with MusicCabinet, I see the picture of the artist, not the cover of the record. The scrobble goes, nevertheless, to the right album.

Great, then you'll be ready when I've implemented the artist sorting!

I guess you mean that the artist is displayed on the last.fm page when scrobbling? That would probably require a last.fm developer to explain - it's out of my control. MusicCabinet is just sending the information (your username and artist/track), and in return you get personal recommendations.

That's miles to go, Hakko ;-)
Yes, with subsonic I saw the album cover, now I see the portrait of the artist, but the counting is right - it's just strange

It might be that I don't scrobble album name (only artist + track name), but vanilla Subsonic does.

hey hakko, sorry for hijacking the thread, but it's the only one i could find mentioning how musiccabinet does not scrobble album name.

if vanilla subsonic does this, i wonder why musiccabinet doesn't? it was actually one of the reasons why i migrated from audiogalaxy to subsonic, and i'd love for new tracks scrobbled from MC to actually be associated with the album they're on, as i use last.fm mainly for new music, to keep track of what albums i have and haven't listened to yet. is this a feature you could "put back", i wonder?

It is allowed to start new threads for new feature requests! But sure, it can be added. I didn't know that last.fm made much use of scrobbled album name, to me it seems that they normally focus on artist and single songs in statistics? But it shouldn't be a big deal to send it.

thank you! i would appreciate that a lot.

last.fm does make use of it, and it's a feature i much appreciate. :) it seems to automatically sort tracks scrobbled without album name under the right album in your stats only if you've scrobbled it "properly" before. here's an example of that. if it's your first ever scrobble of a track, it remains albumless in your stats and as far as i know is never associated with any album by last.fm. if you're trying to keep track of which albums by an artist you've listened to and not just which track, it would be a very useful feature.

also, in the 'recently listened' section of your user page, tracks scrobbled along with album name are shown with the artist picture only while listening, and then with the proper album cover once the track is scrobbled.

Sorting on "sort artist" remains, but scrobbling album names should now be implemented. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=9777&p=49511#p49511
