How to manage playlists

Postby obcd » Fri Dec 21, 2012 3:47 pm

Hi,

It is probably a dumb question, but I don't understand how playlists are managed in musiccabinet. I really like in subsonic the playlists on the left panel and it is nice to be able to share them with other users. I can painfully manage to use playlists with musiccabinet with the "more actions" button, but I seem to be unable to share a playlist with another user. How can I do it and why the management of playlists is so different compared to subsonic?

The playlist management is left from Subsonic 4.6. This was changed drastically in 4.7 - some people love it, some people hate it. Subsonic 4.7 stores playlists in the database instead of in .m3u files, so it makes it more difficult for people who sync between different media players. I think an ideal solution is somewhere inbetween.

For example, it has been suggested to preload playlists in the main window like in 4.7: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=10429

I never used 4.7 though so I don't know what I'm missing.

Alright. You can try the demo of subsonic: http://subsonic.org/demo/index.view

I hope it will convince you!

I vote for the solution in-between. I don't hate the 4.7 style playlists, but it was unusable for me. I have several smart playlists exported out of iTunes on a daily basis and need a way for them to automatically be "imported" into subsonic. If you did go with the 4.7 playlist system, for me as long as there was a process (like the search index update) that slurped in the m3u files in the playlist directory and imported them into the database every night with some sensible options, I'd be happy.
