Please forgive the newbie questions/vocabulary here; however, I think your input on this thread will be helpful for me and others. MC looks awesome. I want to make sure my library is organized properly for the best initial experience with MC and to avoid future issues. I have searched through the forums without finding an answer.

Please advise as to the best organization and how to efficiently attain such an organization of one's music library prior to installing MC. Assume my library is about 300 GB, a complete mess, imported from itunes into openSUSE, and that I have subsonic successfully running.

Thank you,

b

File organization is unimportant as MC builds on the idea of gathering all music that you have, and present an interface to browse it by tags. The interface looks the same regardless on how exactly your folder structure is designed.

This means that tags are much more important than file layout, especially the Album Artist tag for compilation albums or hip-hop albums with lots of guest artists is worth considering.

See viewtopic.php?f=11&t=10454

Personally I use beets from http://beets.radbox.org/ to get my tags correct.
