Subsonic Forum

Hi,

I'm attempting to install MusicCabinet over Subsonic (installed via RPM) on CentOS 6.3.

I've done the following (pretty much following these instructions: http://virtuallyhyper.com/2013/02/installing-musiccabinet-on-top-of-subsonic/, except where they varied slightly):
Installed Java 1.7
Installed Postgresql 9.2 and initialised the database
Copied the .jar and .war files over the existing files in /usr/share/subsonic
Restarted everything

When I try to enter the Settings menu once it's all fired up, I get a "Message Could not get JDBC Connection; nested exception is java.sql.SQLException: Connections could not be acquired from the underlying database!" error.

Is mediaserver.colinshouse defined in your /etc/hosts?

Oops. That seemed to get past that.

I'm still getting the JDBC error though, but now the log file is saying:

I know roughly what that means, but I was under the impression that I'd use the config screen to set the password. Presumably there's something up with my Postgres setup.

You'll get that error in the log files until you have configured/told MusicCabinet what password to use when connecting to PostgreSQL. Don't worry, it's not really an error.

Unfortunately I can't get to that stage, 'cause I'm still getting the "Message Could not get JDBC Connection; nested exception is java.sql.SQLException: Connections could not be acquired from the underlying database!" error.

I wonder if this is trying to connect to the original Subsonic database? I notice that when I revert to the original SubSonic code I can't log in at all ("Invalid password") and have to delete the database and start over.

The default behavior for PostgreSQL is to only accept connections from localhost. If you have a more complicated network setup, you'll have to configure PostgreSQL to accept connections from whatever other domain the connections are coming from.

In theory it's all running on the same server. Though I guess something is trying to look for mediaserver.colinshouse rather than localhost. I'll fish around and see if I can track that down and/or open up Postgres to the whole wide world

Easiest thing is probably to run psql -U postgres and make sure that works (and Google search eventual error messages).

That seems to work fine. I've had a quick poke around in postgres. There's a schema "public" set up under user "postgres".

So what happens when you go to localhost:4040 in a browser?

I get the Subsonic login, with the Media Cabinet branding.

When I log in, using the original SubSonic username/password, I get the start-up screen telling me to install Postgres etc.

And when I go to "Settings", I get the error message attached.

What does the musiccabinet.log file say? You can find the location for it from the About view.

Not a lot. It just says:

I've attached my subsonic.log and subsonic_sh.log. I cleared them out, started Subsonic, tried to enter the "Settings" menu, got the error, and then stopped the Subsonic service.
