Does Music Cabinet work with Subsonic 6? And if it matters, I am currently using OpenMediaVault as the base system on my server and have installed Subsonic thru their modules, but it's just a Debian with a pretty webinterface for everything, so it's always possible to do things manually aswell.

Is no one running Music Cabinet and Subsonic anymore? Is it completely dead and non working?

I guess not many left, I still run Music Cabinet (have been for years now) but I am using DSub 4.8X. The newer versions don't seem to support Artists Radio and Top Tracks. I actually run 4.86 I think and I have a Nexus 5X. I ran the developer Beta N Previews since the third release and now run the official release. Dsub and Music Cabinet work just fine with N.
I wonder how many of us are left?

Subsonic, originally written by Sindre Mehus. Built with MusicCabinet plugin, version 0.7.24c, on March 25, 2013
MusicCabinet until they pry it from my cold, dead hands.

Which Subsonic version are you using with MusicCabinet?

I don't think any Subsonic version later than 4.7 will work with Music Cabinet. Music Cabinet is still very stable and I really don't have any problems. I don't understand why people prefer a file based system. The db seems much more stable and less prone to corruption problems. Still the best fork of Subsonic.

I'm desperately trying to get MC up and running again, but there is an issue that I can't seem to overcome. Is it possible for you to get Last.fm to add genres to your database, or can you now only use the genre saved in the metadata tag? It's very limiting to only have one genre per track, excluding music from all but one genre radio station.
So far, I've had to set MC to prefer only my local genres, and when I disable that option, no genres are available at all.

Years after development has stopped, MusicCabinet is still by far the best music streaming/organizing software I've ever used, free or paid. This isn't just in terms of great features, but it consumes far less system resources than vanilla Subsonic while offering far more. Sadly Last.fm integration is pretty broken. It probably wouldn't take much for someone with the proper skill set to accommodate their changed API, but it is beyond me. Genres no longer populate after my new install (and my metadata genre tag is useless). Still, I just built a brand new server and MusicCabinet was the first thing installed and is used daily with DSub and the web interface.

Since I want the newer Subsonic aswell, I'm considering having two Subsonic installations on my server. Both the newer one and an older one for MusicCabinet, both pointing to the same media directories, then running on different ports etc.
And if it's too much of a pain to get it to work with two installations running beside eachother, I might just make a clean install in a VM for the old Subsonic/MusicCabinet, then let the VM access the media file locations on the real drives.

I use my TAGs and Artwork. LastFM Artist Info and Related Artists works fine. Artists and Genre radio works as well as Top Tracks. Genre Radio allows you to select multiple genres for playllst. What version of Subsonic are you using?

I think that's where my setup differs from yours: my tags are complete EXCEPT for genres, because I have a hard time classifying my entire catalogue using only one genre tag per track/album. I wanted last.fm to apply multiple genres based on its database, but it seems like that function is broken. I think when I tested by adding genres to a few albums, I was able to use my local tag genres for genre radio.
