BTW, where are the files located? I looked for it but couldn't find it, and well... my current C: has about 2000 .png's to search through :)

no problem with the subwiji lock to the side, I can always work around it, but it'd help is all.

Hi,
The program is ClickOnce which means Windows deals with the files itself, they are somewhere in the user applicationfiles if you search in google for.ClickOnce and installation location there may be a better explanation :)

Hello Paul,

My setup:
60k + mp3 files, mostly CBR, 320 where possible
MediaMonkey for management
Subsonic 4.6 (2583) on a QNAP 419P+ II
Fixed IP cable internet, 15Mb down/5Mb up (usually tests better)

Have been using SubAir on my XP machine at work,
where bandwidth/connection can vary (<4Mb pipe, many users).
Saw a link to your app in the forums and have been giving it a try.

My feedback:

Pro:
Fast & easy setup
Great looking/ easy to use interface, especially the like the dock.
Sound quality very nice with stock transcoding
UI remembers volume level

Con:
Noticable delay between songs, even with streaming buffer at max
Adding your transcoder broke playback. Removed it, no problems.
Playlist window does not retain column settings
Auto-hide seems to not work - I have my Taskbar across the top, and the SubWiji bar just moves onto it.
Clicking anywhere in the Info scroll invokes the Seek, which stops playback for buffering,
even when going back in the song. Sometimes playback doesn't resume.

Requests:
'Current Playlist' and/or Resume on open
Larger/faster buffer capacity
Clicking on info scroll invokes Notification pop-up, maybe right-click for Seek?
Palette adjustments for skins and/or link to guide for modding/building my own

Hi,
If you want it to start the song faster then try turning the buffer to its minimum, the higher the buffer the more of the song it pre buffers before playing (more time gap).

ggibby wrote:Adding your transcoder broke playback. Removed it, no problems.

That is strange I do recommend using my transcoder, when you say it broke playback what exactly happens?can you screenshot your settings page with the transcoder text in for me?
_
ggibby wrote:Playlist window does not retain column settings
No it doesn't that's in the list for a future change.
_
ggibby wrote:Auto-hide seems to not work - I have my Taskbar across the top, and the SubWiji bar just moves onto it.

The reason auto hide does not work in your case os because your taskbar is at the top, I will add to my list of bugs.
_
ggibby wrote:Clicking anywhere in the Info scroll invokes the Seek, which stops playback for buffering,

This is as designed so that you hover and the time it shows is the time to which you want to skip to then when you click it seeks, why are you clicking that area if you do not wish to skip?

As for going back in the song it has to re buffer (and if your buffer is high that will be slow - turn the buffer to its lowest setting) SubWiji does not store the song and so when moving through it needs to restart the stream.

You also state that sometimes playback does not always resume, this is because the transcoder I recommend is not running for you, if we can sort that then this problem should go away.
_
ggibby wrote:Requests:

This has been added to my list of future changes.
_
ggibby wrote:Larger/faster buffer capacity

It seems you have been mislead the buffer is NOT to store the song it is to buffer the stream which means if your network is slow and buffer is high then it would not stutter. In your case since your upload is good I would turn the buffer to its lowest and give that a try.
_
ggibby wrote:Clicking on info scroll invokes Notification pop-up, maybe right-click for Seek?

What would be on the notification popup, why are you clicking on the scroller text? I designed it so that when you hover it shows the time in the song which it will skip to.

This is in the list for allowing skin support but is a long term thing since it would need a lot of background work to work well.

Thanks for the feedback
:)

That seems to work.

paulodell wrote:<snip> can you screenshot your settings page with the transcoder text in for me?

Working on that, but basically, I named it "SubWiji," mp3 to mp3, copied and pasted (checked for spaces at both ends), saved, and when the song changed, the buffering wheel just spun. No playback from web interface or SubAir, either.
Disabled/Enabled Subsonic, no change. Deleted your transcoding, *bing*! All good.
*edit* attached .png of screencap.

Perhaps something to do with the QNAP build? I have seen threads about transcoding issues, part of why I converted everything to mp3.
_

paulodell wrote:<snip> why are you clicking that area if you do not wish to skip?

I clicked accidentally, and am suggesting the same Notification window that appears when the track changes, with cover art, maybe a click-through to the album tracklisting/info?

_
ggibby wrote:'Current Playlist' and/or Resume on open

The first iteration of this looks good, but the Playlist window opens on top of everything else...not sure if closing it before the list loads will affect performance.

Also, we are having network issues, but the second time I invoked the Resume on open, the track info was displayed but the buffering wheel just spun. Probably an anomaly (which is fun to say).
_
paulodell wrote:It seems you have been mislead <snip>

Ah, no, I am using the term 'buffer' and thinking 'cache,' as some other clients I've tried take that approach, which makes backing up in a song pretty easy. Different methods, different results.

paulodell wrote:What would be on the notification popup, <snip>

See clarification above.

You are welcome.

More notes:

I like the in-app update notification and process. It's working well.

Idea on a side-mount for the UI bar - maybe a Tab that pops out on track change and/or mouseover, presenting more of a square panel, then snap back on mouse away? I use TeamViewer and they have something similar.

Thanks for the screenshot but could you screenshot the actual transcoder text (its cut off with the scrollbar), just to check that the last - is in place, it may be an issue with QNAP? Does the subsonic log have anything to say when the songs don't play?

ggibby wrote:The first iteration of this looks good, but the Playlist window opens on top of everything else...not sure if closing it before the list loads will affect performance.

Closing the playlist window will not affect the loading of the list as this is done in the background so you can close it and re-open it and it will have loaded the tracks still.

ggibby wrote:Also, we are having network issues, but the second time I invoked the Resume on open, the track info was displayed but the buffering wheel just spun. Probably an anomaly (which is fun to say).

Yes there are a few issues here with the actual track resume so I am still looking into that.

Yes I will bear something like that in mind when I get around to that.

Hi Paul,

Your applications looks really sharp. I like the docking bar very much.
However I have one problem. When i try to connect to my server from work SubWiji tells me that it needs proxy authentication.
Can I put my proxy credentials somewhere in Subwiji?

Thanks and keep up the good work!

Hi,
SubWiji should be using the systems default Proxy settings, have you set the proxy login using your web browser?

Cheers

Thanks for your swift reply!
To my knowledge there is no option in any browser to fill in user credentials for proxies.
Only to use proxy or not.

Hi,

I have some trouble with subji : some music seems to be slowed. I d'ont no if is due to subji or my config of subsonic but subji is the only player who does that.

Hi,
Yes this is a problem with your Subsonic server not using the transcoder setting in my signature.
Please add the transcoder to subsonic and the slow tracks with SubWiji will stop

Hi,
Yes when running the proxy does internet explorer ask for credentials?
If it does are you selecting remember?

Thanks for such a great subsonic client, and by the looks of this thread your support for it is amazing :D

There's just two features that I think would make the playback even better:

  • Gapless playback. Would be great if during the last few seconds of a stream it could start opening the next stream and get the buffer full.
  • Movable popup, I would prefer it to popup on the top-right of my second monitor. Not very major, but shouldn't be too difficult to implement.

Also any plans towards open source development? I would be willing to take a crack at implementing these if you let me.

EDIT:

Also just noticed the slowness on some songs. It seems that SubWiji doesn't like lame being used to downsample, switched the downsampling to use an ffmpeg line similar to the one you recommend and that fixed it.

And just tried docking to the bottom, seems that if you change the bar UI scale the offset isn't calculated correctly, bigger bars appear above the bottom and smaller bars below it.

Hi Nemo,
Thanks for the feedback, I have been trying to keep up support and development.
Been busy elsewhere the past month however but I will add your points to my todo list and hopefully try to add them.

Cheers

Hello Paul,

SubWiji is my default player now and overall working well,
with few real problems until recently.

I have some specific albums with off-speed playback (some faster, some slower), which you addressed above already,
and as we have discussed, the transcoding on the Subsonic QNAP install is problematic,
but also on some tracks the audio stops about halfway through while the counter continues to the end and queues the next track.

Haven't had a chance to troubleshoot yet, it just became noticeable today,
wanted to check in and see if that is a known issue.
Apparently there is a newer transcoder build, but the install seems to involve some WinSCP gymnastics I'd rather avoid.

Keep up the great work!

Hi gibby,
Sorry I don't know about qnap installs I coded and built SubWiji using an OSX install.
