Album listings are odd - Solved

Postby larry.hanks » Sat Jan 26, 2013 10:17 pm

Hi all,

I apologize if I am posting in the wrong place or if this has been fixed and I searched incorrectly to find the posting of that.

I am still running subsonic 4.6 - build 2583. I have tried upgrading to subsonic 4.7, madsonic 4.7 (various builds) and finally today, madsonic 4.8 build 3320 beta 3. All of the upgrades have resulted in the same problem and I have yet to find why.

I have this issue with many albums but for the sake of explaining this easily, I will use one specific example. I have a lot of Dave Matthews Band. With Subsonic 4.6, when I click on Dave Matthews Band as an artist on the left frame, the listing of albums shows each album name correctly. When I upgrade to any of the above mentioned versions it instead shows me a few album names correctly, but then shows a lot of them as "Dave Matthews Band - Disk1" or "Dave Matthews Band - Disk2" and can repeat disc 1, 2, or 3 over and over. When I click on those albums it does show the correct tracks for a specific album. I would prefer to see the album name listed instead, though. An example of what I want to see is, "Live in New York City Disc 1" instead of, "Dave Matthews Band - Disk1".

It does show the album name listed correctly in the main part of the window where you can see the album cover pictures and the name of the album beneath that. That currently is working with me running madsonic 4.8 build 3320 beta 3.

I have tried looking at mp3 tags and I don't see anywhere where it even says, "Dave Matthews Band - Diskx" where x= 1, 2, or 3. I have tried changing the sorting features within Madsonic and just overall looking at my files to make sure all is well. None of these things have fixed the issue correctly.

Again, I have this issue with other artists, but not all. It seems that it happens with artists that I have a lot of their albums. Not those with 1 or 2 albums.

I would be happy to upload or show any logs, files, or anything else that would help with someone fixing this issue. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Larry

Update: I have tried doing a clean install and an upgrade with existing database. Both of these result in the same action listed above.

Another Update: After looking closely at the mp3 tags and folder naming schemes I noticed that in all tags and folder names, Disc is spelled with a 'c' (disc). In Subsonic or Madsonic, it spells it with a 'k' (disk) even though there is no where a 'k' is used. That leads me to believe that the name is being created some how by Subsonic but I don't know how.

Another note: I am running all of these on Windows2008R2 server. The music is actually stored on another Windows2008R2 server and the Subsonic server see it through a UNC path.

As I've looked closer at the scanning of the files, it's subsonic that sets the ALBUMSET to these ..."Disk.." names. Does anyone know where it's pulling the info to create the ALBUMSET attribute? Also, how can I change it to be the folder name, or read the mp3 tag?

Thanks,
Larry

I finally just devoted time to this and didn't give up until I figured this out. Simple fix and I can't believe it took me this long to see....

When I have an album with multiple CDs, I usually put them in the artist folder structure as such;

X:\artist name\album A - Disc 1
X:\artist name\album A - Disc 2

I needed to create another folder for the album and put both disc folders in that. So I ended up with this:

x:\artist name\Album A\Album A - Disc 1
x:\artist name\Album A\Album A - Disc 2

Once I updated that in all the places I could find issues, everything came together. So long story short, all is well and thank you MadEvil for making Madsonic 4.8. I like the new updates! I will be donating.
