Request: DSub Remote (WiFi/Bluetooth)

Postby gaui » Sun Jan 27, 2013 2:09 am

To DSub dev:

Please make an app (or feature in DSub) that can control another DSub device remotely over WiFi/Bluetooth. The basic functionality would be to be able to go to next/previous track. This would make DSub so much more superior to the Subsonic app.

Use case:

Say you have a tablet that connects to your stereo via minijack, which is used to play music (either offline or online from a Subsonic server). Then instead of always going to the stereo/tablet to change a song, you could connect your phone to the tablet (remotely, either over WiFi or Bluetooth) and use it to control the music playing on the tablet.

Also of course you could use a tablet to control an Android phone - and vice versa.

P.S. I'm not talking about controlling the Subsonic server. I'm talking about controlling the DSub app (which controls the server). So I think this is relative to DSub - not Subsonic.

Please comment to show support for this.

I would use this but I'm guessing that it would be a non negligible amount of effort to create something like this. In fact my use case for this would not be to skip tracks but to star tracks.

Non trivial is an understatement. This has always been an end goal of mine, but there is so much to do before I even consider doing that.

So how can we help. I would happily pay for DSub if it could do this.

Can we get access to DSub code?

Or maybe it needs to be developed as a separate plugin?

So.. where do we go to learn about creating new plugins I wonder..

The code is up on githib for anyone to play with, but I think it would be more effort then you would think. And it wouldn't be a plugin as DSub has no plugin support. You are of course welcome to try. I fully intend to get to it eventually, there are just several things I want to work on before it.
