Alpine car radio displays current date instead of song

Postby somercamb » Mon Dec 23, 2013 2:55 am

A very odd thing happened today. I have been playing music from my Verizon galaxy s3 for almost a year now through Dsub. The Alpine car radio always displays the artist, album and song when I push a certain button on the face plate. It worked fine on Friday, did not use the car yesterday and today, when playing a song the Alpine car radio displays the current date instead of the song. And for the artist and album, it displays nonsensical words. I have posted a photo of what it displays for the song readout.

The only thing that has changed is my phone's OS- Friday night I installed Android 4.3. Is there a known issue with Dsub and 4.3.2 (which is the Dsub version on phone)? Any ideas?

thank you

I was wondering about that too. I've had a similar experience since updating to Android 4.3 (on my Galaxy S4). Track info is no longer displayed on my Pioneer head unit. It just says no info available or something like that. Was working fine before the 4.3 upgrade. I tried playing with a different player, i think it was Mixzing or the default music app and it did display the track info correctly.

That doesn't make any sense to be honest.y understanding is that in 4.2 the new Bluetooth stack broke the custom Bluetooth metadata extras that some manufacturers were using. In 4.3 they made the same API that puts the lock screen there work for Bluetooth metadata was well. I'm not sure why the Galaxy phones would stop working when others started working again after reaching 4.3. I will try to look into it some more.

Do you know what other apps work fine still, and just to make sure the lock screen appears when you are playing correct?

Yes, the Lock screen widget is there (like the below screenshot, correct?). But now, the "date display" is no longer there, but rather it just shows 'song' or 'album' or 'artist' depending on which mode I am in on the Alpine radio. I *have* seen this before, but normally it is a simple matter of going back or forward 1 song to "re-engage" it and the song/album/artist name appears again. Sometimes I have to turn off/on the bluetooth or the radio itself or some combination of the aforementioned. But nothing is working this time. Also, another thing that I began happening before I updated to Android 4.3. In the notification tray/pull down menu, tapping on the album cover art or song title on the Dsub widget clears the notification tray/pull down menu as if it is going to bring me to Dsub, but the tray just rolls back up and I am at the screen previous to pulling down the tray. Does that make sense? And regarding the Notify tray widget, did you remove the "previous track" button? For the last 2 months or so (have not had time to post about it til now) I have noticed the only available buttons to tap on the widget are PLAY/PAUSE (and sometimes STOP), the NEXT TRACK and the of course the 'X' on the far right to clear the widget. There used to be a PREVIOUS TRACK button, but I no longer see it.

Thank you for any help and bonus points to you for responding on Christmas! ;-)

Happy Holidays!

The issue with clicking the notification should be fixed in the update going out. As for the last issue, it sounds like you have persistent notification on. If you want the prev pause back behavior try turning it off. A few versions ago I changed the notification to be more like most music players in that regard.

Got it! Thank you! Although it would be cool to have the constant notification with the the PREVIOUS, PLAY/PAUSE AND FORWARD buttons and THE 'X'. Just saying... ;-)

What about the issue with my car radio displaying only 'song' or 'album' or 'artist' rather than the actual song or album or artist?

Also, why did you change the behavior of accessing the library and settings, etc? It was easier to swipe to each one (using one hand) rather than go back a page and stretch your thumb to click the "column of 3 dashes" in the upper left corner (or try to swipe from the left side which is not easy when you have a case for your phone).

Cheers again!

I do see the lockscreen widget as well.

Google Play Music shows the metadata on my stereo. Poweramp works also (with the 'enable android lock screen' setting enabled).

Well after some googling I really have no idea. Unless I can find some documentation about what they changed, I have absolutely no idea what the problem is since it seems to work fine for other 4.3 devices. From what I've googled it appears that Samsung did change something for no apparent reason (I don't understand why it's constantly ONLY Samsung that screws up all the standard API implementations on their devices). Unfortunately no one seems to have come out and said what they changed to fix it, though there does appear to be a solution somewhere. So on here are a few apk's where I changed random things that might be associated with it. Let's see if any of them fix it.

As for the re-done UI, I changed it for a few different reasons. First of all, it seems to be the way that Google is encouraging devs to go, and most major apps seem to be going towards using the pull out drawer. Second, I was quickly reaching the point where just adding new tabs was impractical. Swiping between 4 tabs was already semi annoying. Any more then that was just really irritating. At first I tried doing a hybrid swipe/pull out interface, but I found that too often the UI misinterpreted opening the drawer for a tab swipe and vice versa.

You're right, it does look like Samsung borked something in their bluetooth implementation in the 4.3 software. I tried flashing my phone with another 4.3 ROM that's AOSP based and this one does not have any problems. (Even fixed an intermittent issue with bluetooth audio cutting out briefly). Thanks for looking into this.

Posted a less random guess fix to viewtopic.php?f=16&t=13973&p=61035#p61035 if anyone wants to give it a try.

Hey all,

For some reason, I did not receive a notification of the last few responses. Anyway, the 5.3.6 version, at first, seemed to fixe the random date showing on my car radio display. Now the song appears, but only the title of the first song that plays (once you start your car or turn off and on the radio's power) is shown throughout, no matter what song is played. For example, I will play "Heart of Rock and Roll" and that song title will scroll on my display no matter what song is played until or unless I turn the car off and back or turn off and then on the power to the radio.

I daneren, I did check your link (viewtopic.php?f=16&t=13973&p=61035#p61035) and aaw that others have had the same issue, specifically by user "gleep" on Sat Jan 18, 2014 8:14 pm.

But I'm patient.... Thank you again!
