Sync notification bug and weird star shuffle behavior

Postby grumpwagon » Thu Jul 17, 2014 2:24 pm

Hey, great app! I've noticed two issues on my phone (Sprint LG G2 4.4.2).

1) I have "Sync Starred" selected. I believe I have enough cache space for my entire starred collection. Despite that, the "DSub: New media is available - New starred songs" notification reappears very frequently. To the best of my knowledge, all my starred songs are already synced.

2) I have a mix of starred songs and albums. Selecting Home>Starred, then hitting the shuffle button currently only shuffles the songs, ignoring the albums. It'd be cool if there was a way to shuffle it all together.

Thanks!

EDIT: Just remembered one more thing. If I listen to a podcast on dsub, the subsonic web page's "now playing" section shows the correct time when I started downloading the episode. However, if you finish listening to the podcast, then come back to the webpage an hour later, the now playing never goes away. It goes from "59 minutes ago" then refreshes as if I'm just starting the download now. It will do this over and over. I don't think it actually redownloads the podcast, it's just a bit weird. It might do this for music too, but I haven't tested that.

I'm happy to supply additional information or logs or whatever you need for any of these, but I will be gone next week starting Saturday. I'll reply when I get back.

1) When looking at the code, it appears that it is marking downloaded as true regardless of whether or not the download completed successfully. The only thing I can think of is that maybe some song is failing to download, and it is reporting as if something was downloaded even though it did not. Can you send me a log immediately after getting the notification? You can manually trigger the sync by going into the system Settings -> Accounts -> DSub -> Overflow Menu -> Sync Now.
2) Alright, I will look into it.
3) That is a problem with the server. I've asked the server developer to add an API for me to call so that a download is not counted as a "Play", but never received a response.

Edit: I just thought of another possible source of #1. Do you have Browse By Tags enabled?

I know I've seen the Browse By Tags option, but I can't find it now for some reason. Where is it? I don't believe I have it on, but I'll check.

As for #3, maybe I'm not understanding you. I don't care that it shows up in now playing when I download it initially, it's just that after I'm done listening to it, the app keeps refreshing the Now Playing status. If I play a podcast, listen to it, walk away (and don't play anything else on dsub), then 3 hours later open the subsonic web page, it still shows <user>@dsub & the podcast in the now playing section.

It's under each individual's server settings. The #3 issue might be related to another issue where a track which was started without it being downloaded first would sometimes redownload itself in the background. It should be fixed in the update that went out yesterday.

No, browse by tags is off.

Also, I said I could get you logs, but I forgot I got a warranty replacement and am no longer rooted. Unless there's a non-root way to get logs I don't know about (is the beta app compiled with debug mode?), it'll have to wait until I get back.

From the Home tab overflow menu -> Send Log.

Sent!

EDIT: I'm looking at the logs myself and I'm seeing tracks failing to download. I assume that's the problem, no? I'll delete that failing track from the device (and check it on the server), resync and see if things clear up.

Just for closure (and in case anyone else runs across this), the solution to my problem #1 was I had songs with corrupted file names on my server. Looking at the dsub logs identified which ones they were, and I went in and renamed them to the correct names, deleted the files from my device, then resynced. Once the files downloaded correctly, the notification stopped coming up.

daneren2005 says he's putting a fix in to stop the notification from showing up even if nothing was successfully downloaded in the next version.
