That's a baffling decision. Totally baffling.
I have used a dozen or more Subsonic apps and this is the only one that makes me look at a playlist that looks like this:

wsp150321d3_04_mp3_Fishwater
Red Hot Mama
wsp150321d3_06_mp3_Fishwater

Why would any user not prefer to see:

Fishwater
Red Hot Mama
Fishwater?


If you believe it is less confusing, than I whole-heartedly disagree.
It makes albums and playlists look like a cluttered mess.

Please reconsider this.

As a new Subsonic user (got it when I heard about Sonos integration), I too am curios as the rationale behind the decision to use track names?
I had Googled "Best Android subsonic app" and found dSub. My music collection is mostly live music, like this user said.
There are many instances of "song -> jam -> song" or even multiples instances of stuff like "banter" in my song files.
I had no idea why song names seemed so cluttered and reinstalled app and then checked in my tagging software to see if my song titles were corrupt or some odd version of id tags that wasn't supported.

I finally gave up and uninstalled the app and downloaded the regular, stock Subsonic App.

I'm glad I thought to check this forum to see what might be the issue and now I know.

Yeah, add me to the list of people who thinks that is a horrendous decision and to please reconsider this "feature?".

I added it to the TODO list to make it an option, but let me explain my position. Most people don't name their files completely retarded things like wsp150321d3_06_mp3_Fishwater. Generally the only reason to have multiple files named the exact same thing is because one is a live edition or something similar where you are going to want to be able to tell them apart. I had many people ask me about making it so there was a way to tell them apart, and for most people the names will be different in some manner besides just a number difference. I will make it optional, but I still feel it's retarded to have multiple songs of the same where where you have no idea what the difference between them is.

I use a directory structure of Artist/Album, and track filenames of position/title, e.g. /artist1/album1/01 Song1.m4a). I really dislike adding meta-info to titles/filenames/song names: (reprise), (alternate cut), etc., as I consider that a kludge for info which should really be in a different tag, perhaps "comments." I accept having the track order and file extension as part of the filename for purely pragmatic reasons - many players depend on that, and I've yet to run into a file system which would allow two different files with the same name.

If you really want to display something which differentiates songs with the same title, why not simply append -1, -2, or (1), (2) or something similar during display?

I did not mean that you are retarded, just that it seems like a retarded way to store music to me. If I have two of the same song, I want to know in what they are different, and which one is which. Your guys's system seems to be just to guess. I just can't figure out why that would be preferable to changing the filenames to be something more intuitive. I do understand that you may just be storing the differentiation in different tags, but Subsonic is not sending that information. I unfortunately cannot do anything with tags since DSub needs to be able to work regardless of whether the file is downloaded locally or if the tag information is stripped during transcoding. Appending a number seems pointless to me honestly.

The extra number gives no information since the order is dependent on the seemingly arbitrary alphabetical ordering of the files. It is just adding information which doesn't convey any actual meaning. Either way this is just my personal opinion. Huh? My albums don't normally play in alphabetical order. Do yours? Track number order doesn't seem arbitrary to me, as it was the intent of the original artist/producer.

For me, an extra number would convey differentiation between multiple identically named tracks on an album.

That's great and I really appreciate it and I know a lot of other people do too.

The issue is basically live music.

When you download from eTree or Archive.org, file names for tracks are typically (almost exclusively) labelled in the fashion that I indicated. I could of course change the filenames of all the shows that I download but thats:
1) a hassle
2) not needed for any app, client or player that I use but for dSub as the tags are used to display file names and not file name
3) you wouldn't be able to continue seeding the show in BitTorrent as the files have changed unless you kept an unchanged copy also- thereby doubling your storage needs and
4) I'd really prefer to not have to come up with creative names for the second instance of the same song title being played.

Anyways, again, I totally appreciate you taking a look at this and putting it on your list of things to do. I have a few dozen users on my Subsonic server and six or seven of them have Android and dSub: I know they will appreciate it too! Thanks again.

Where is the artist radio functionality? I cannot find it for the life of me. GS4 v4.9.5

There is a radio button on the artist screen. You have to have athe latest version of Subsonic for it to show up.

Please please please add an option to allow first level artists (so we see album covers in the list) AND disable artist radio. I never use this feature and I find it slows down loading of the list of albums when clicking on an artist. Turning off first level artists results in artist radio not showing up, but neither does album art (in the list).

Also please add an option to re-enable the old behavior where the playback notification would appear when launching dSub if there is something in the play queue (as opposed to now having to click play).

Even better, expand upon the instructions on GitHib for building dSub from source. I can't build it due to errors finding libraries (not the ones explicitly mentioned). If I could get it to build I would contribute code...

I am adding the list of projects and libs required (you are probably missing the ones from the SDK support libs) later today. The long load has nothing to do with the artist radio, it is for loading the artist information. Subsonic does not load that information from Last.FM until it is explicitly asked for, so the first time any artist is loaded it takes a long time. I am not going to make an option to disable that as that seems like the entirely wrong approach to the problem. I am adding it to my TODO list to lazy load the artist info so if it takes a long time it doesn't stop you from being able to do other stuff.
