Feature Request: Subsonic remote

Postby gaui » Sun Jan 06, 2013 10:29 pm

I was hosting a party the other day and found the lack of controlling the music with some kind of a Subsonic remote.

My PC is in my bedroom running the Subsonic server. I hooked my laptop to my stereo and used my laptop to play songs via browser/Subsonic.

The stereo and my laptop were a few steps away from where we were sitting. So to control the music I set up TeamViewer both on my laptop and my phone and then used my phone to control the laptop (the music). That was kind of hard though, because I was just controlling the website with my phone.

So what I would want is some kind of a remote. Where you can choose songs/playlists with your phone and let it play on some other device (like in this case, my laptop).

Is this even possible? I'm not sure how to go about this, but I think this would be really cool - to be able to control music from another device through your phone.

Not exactly what you are asking but the builtin RC/Jukebox mode lets you control the subsonic server from the android app...in this case it would play music on your pc, not your laptop.

This request should probably be in the feature request forum rather than specific to dsub because it would require some sort of service to be installed on the host machine since this isn't built into the server api. It would definitely be a killer feature though.

This was what I was going to suggest. Have your system which is serving Subsonic connected directly to your stereo and enable Subsonic's jukebox mode. You can then press the "RC" button on the currently playing tab in DSub (or the official Subsonic Android app) to enable control of the jukebox directly from your phone.

This avoids streaming of the audio over any network and also eliminates the need to transcode!
