Few requests

Hi. I really love this app and have turned on many a friend to it. I just have a few requests.

I mainly listen to podcasts, so there can be a lot of seeking to get the point I want to listen to. In previous versions, when the time slider was moved a little box popped up that would show the minutes and seconds that the slider was at. Find the 45:36 i want to start at and let go and all would be good. Now, the box is gone and i have to guess a few times to get the slider where I want it. If this was removed at request from the larger community then I understand.

Second, sometimes a podcast, for instance, will have the name tag the same as a previous episode, but the actuall filenames are just dates. Is there a way to sort podcasts by date? Or remove the name tag so that the date format is used?

Example of what I'm talking about:Image

In this poor picture of my computer screen you can see the date format, nevermimd the 'a' symbol.

Image In this poor picture of my computer screen you can see the file in the middle and bottom have the same tag, so dsub never brings up the newest one.

Image

I should have at least two files named Adam, Alison and Bryan.

Sorry if I'm unclear, let me know if you need anything more.

FWIW, using subsonic via a Web browser all podcasts show up in chronological order. Image

Thanks in advance for your time and effort.

Yeah removing the time was an accident I will put it back in the next release. As for the podcast issue, it should display correctly in the podcast tab. It probably won't display correctly in the web view from the normal media tab either. Or did I misunderstand what you mean.

Well, I haven't upgraded to 4.8 so the podcast tab doesn't work. Forgot to mention that. Everything shows up as expected except in dsub, where things are ordered alphabetically.

Are you saying upgrading to 4.8 may resolve this? May ne what I need to push me over the edge.

Yes 4.8 added support for showing the podcasts correctly. Otherwise there isn't a whole lot I can do as there is nothing to distinguish between normal songs and podcasts in the normal views.

Wait actually the podcast tab should work just fine on earlier versions too. You just can't use the amin functions of the podcast tab.

Hmmm, once in the podcast tab I can't do anything, get the error about the API being 4.7

I will get around to upgrading soon. Didn't really have a reason to until now.

Btw, I'm on a rooted Samsung GS3.

Thanks for the help.

Oops I might have accidentally required the wrong api version. I will have to fix that in the next version.

Well, I'm having major issues upgrading.

I am installing on an ubuntu server.

I started by downloading the 4.8 deb, then ran sudo dpkg -i subsonic-4.8.deb, no go.

Tried various things, starting/stoping service...

Ended up uninstalling all java and subsonic

I reinstalled oracle-java7, reran sudo dpkg -i subsonic-4.8.deb

seems like it installs way too fast.

I never end up with a /etc/default/subsonic, am i supposed to create it...

gahhh, this is why i didnt upgrade. i always have issues getting going so once im up i tend to leave it.

any help getting going again would rock. cant seem to find a solution on the forums.

Thanks for letting me ramble/rage.

Sorry I have been out of town over the weekend and just went straight into work. I can copy paste my /etc/default/subsonic here when I get home.

#
# This is the configuration file for the Subsonic service
# (/etc/init.d/subsonic)
#
# To change the startup parameters of Subsonic, modify
# the SUBSONIC_ARGS variable below.
#
# Type "subsonic --help" on the command line to read an
# explanation of the different options.
#
# For example, to specify that Subsonic should use port 80 (for http)
# and 443 (for https), and use a Java memory heap size of 200 MB, use
# the following:
#
SUBSONIC_ARGS="--port=80 --https-port=443 --max-memory=200"

# The user which should run the Subsonic process. Default "root".
# Note that non-root users are by default not allowed to use ports
# below 1024. Also make sure to grant the user write permissions in
# the music directories, otherwise changing album art and tags will fail.

SUBSONIC_USER=www-data

Thanks so much for that. I stepped back from this for a bit. When I came back I discovered my major error:

When remotely accessing a machine, loclalhost:4040 will do nothing in a browser.

Guess that's what I get for being up too late.

Now I have lost my RC ability but I have been there before.

Thanks again daneren2005, I really do appreciate the effort you give to the community.
