Sort issue

Postby vpsrider » Sun Jun 08, 2014 5:35 am

HI,

I have been having an issue with the way DSub is sorting my library. I have a Madsonic server with media organized in folders like this. genre/artist/album. It worked flawlessly for over a year with DSub but for some reason over the last month the sorting within DSub is by the genre and year in the tag. I am not sure how this changed and this is not very useful.

I have tired all the settings within DSub that I can see even the box that says sort by tag is not checked. The server is using sort by folder as well. If I use the stock Subsonic client with this server it works fine. I don't know if it's DSub, the server or a setting.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

When you unchecked the sort make sure to refresh to see if that fixes it. It won't be doing any sorting client side at that point. I haven't changed the custom sort in like a year, so it must have been something changed server side.

I've tried everything I can see and still it is not sorting by folders.

Subsonic, Ultrasonic & iPhone clients are sorting by folder fine on the same server. I thought maybe it was my phone but I installed Dsub on my tablet and it's the same result.

It's too bad, Dsub was the best client I tried.

I think I am completely misunderstanding what you mean by sorting. You say that you have it setup to be genre/artist/album. You then state that it is sorting by genre and year in the tag, but that makes no sense. If you have it setup by genre, then artist, then there would be no way to sort off of genre since they would all be the same. Can you show me with a picture of both Subsonic/DSub side by side what you mean?

I am likely not explaining this correctly. I will show you the difference between the the other clients and Dsub.

The folders are structured as follows on the server:

genre/artist/album/song

ie:
Rock/AC-DC/Black in Black/mp3 songs

The server is set to sort by folder name and filename

This is Subsonic library tab

This is Subsonic after selecting Rock

This is Dsub library tab (looks the same as subsonic)
Image

This is Dsub after selecting Rock (the artist names are all Rock)
Image

I've discovered that the location matches between the two so I guess it's sorting them the same, it's just not displaying the artist name. ie if I select the 4th rock from the top on Dsub I get AC-DC, 5th I get Areosmith and so on. It's just showing Rock instead of the artist name.

I do appreciate the help. Thanks

That is very strange and I am drawing a black on why it would be doing that. Can you make me a temp username/password on your server and I can look at the problem more directly?

Alright, so after some digging, I found the issue. A few months ago I added a check to use the album if it is set, use it instead of the title. This was to support multi-disc albums where the title would by something like Disc 1, and it was better to show the album instead. I'm guessing that you did update the album of all the songs for those albums, but I think there is a bug where the server doesn't update the album of the parent folder when you do that. I'm honestly not sure what I'm going to do since both issues are irritating

I have reverted DSub to an earlier version from a Titanium backup. It must be prior to the album change as it is displaying fine again. I do need to upgrade the server in the next couple of weeks so maybe that fixed the it. At any rate I am glad to be using DSub again as the other clients just don't compare.

Thanks again.
