Change cache location error

Postby yodamusic » Thu Jun 19, 2014 8:05 pm

I am trying to change the default music cache location on the phone or ext sd card, and no matter what location I put in, the app reports invalid location, reverting to default. Is there a way to correct this? Thanks. I'm on Dsub for Android on Note 3, lastest OS.

What is the default, and what is the location you are trying to put it to? Apps can only write to specific spots on the SD card since Android 4.4.

IN regards to the cache... it would be sweet if you could browse the file system and didn't have to manually plug in the address of your external mem card which is usually named obscurely.

Sorry, back to the main topic!

Same here, if I try to set cache location to /storage/sdcard1/dsub the path gets reset to default although the location is writable by other apps. Would be nice if I could use the sdcard1 location because I have not much space on sdcard0.

If you are also on a Note with Android 4.4, no it is not writable by other apps. The internet is full of information about this change that made the SD Card locked down for 3d party app's use. You need to set it to the same location as the default but with sdcard1 instead sdcard0.

I just made a test and downloaded a podcast with beyondpod directly into /extSdCard/BeyondPod without problems. Anyway - I now changed the path in DSub to /storage/sdcard1/Android/data/github.daneren2005.dsub/files/music and this works like expected.

Today I started DSub and got a message like “... selected path is no longer writable.... DSub corrected the path ... "". I looked into settings and saw that the path is exactly the same as before ( /storage/sdcard1/Android/data/github.daneren2005.dsub/files/music). This happens if I move the old cache data to the new path in sdcard1. Do I have to re-cache all data?

The only thing I can imagine is if some of the file permissions are being moved as well, so you might need to. How did you move the stuff over?

I moved the cache with FX. The files and directories in the new location have permissions 770 and user/group media_rw/media_rw. DSub complains but can read and delete the previously cached music. Also I can cache new music with DSub in the new location.

For the records.... after I removed a "tmp" file I found in the cache directory caching to " /mnt/media_rw/sdcard1/dsub" works flawlessly.
