Ratings - how do they work?

I've never really understood the behaviour of the rating thumbs. If I'm listening a track and tap the thumb up it says rating set and the song has 5 stars next to it. If I tap it again it has none. If I tap the thumb down it says rating set (set to what?) and skips to the next track. Is this the correct behaviour?

Is there any way to rate other than 5 stars using the thumbs? My expectation would be that every tap up adds a star and every tap down deducts one, but that isn't the case.

Where are these ratings stored? I can't see them anywhere on the web client.

Lastly, (and this may be more of a question for the subsonic dev rather than dsub) is there any way to sync ratings to somewhere like RateYourMusic?

Thanks

Yes that is the correct behavior. If you thumbs down it sets it to 1 star and skips it. The ratings are stored on the server but the Web GUzi doesn't expose that information anywhere. Yes you can do a full 5 star rating by clicking the button on a song and selecting Set Rating

Thanks for the explanation. It just seemed counterintuitive (and I think I was further confused by 1 star ratings not actually showing, so it just looks like no stars).

Have you ever considered making the thumbs increase/decrease the rating rather than absolute 1 or 5 stars?

No. That is completely opposite of every music app I have ever used. 1 star just shows as red.

I see. It's not something I've seen before so it seemed odd that you can only rate 1 or 5 stars but nothing in between.

Using the black theme the red highlight for 1 stars doesn't show at all so it just looked blank to me. It isn't very visible in holo either. Is there a reason for not showing 1 star?

I am fixing the theme issue. I mostly use the light theme so I didn't notice it doesn't look right on the others. I am not showing the 1-star because I thought it was pointless clutter when the red background works just as well. Obviously that is only true if you can see the red background though.
