Bookmark feature request (or am I missing something?)

Postby Luterin » Thu Aug 11, 2016 3:56 pm

I listen to a lot of different things, lot's of ebooks with lots of files which I arrange in playlists for each "book", but when I press bookmark it makes a bookmark to the where I currently am but only on one specific file. So when I load a different playlist and then want to go back to the thing I bookmarked it only chooses the file that was active, not the whole playlist.

Am I missing something, or perhaps this is something that needs to be a new feature? So you can bookmark a file withing a playlist, complete with that playlist, and when I chose that bookmark it changes out the whole active list to the one in the bookmark. All the files.

Alternative it could be possible to just have multiple "active lists" which one could switch between, which perhaps would work even better. Atleast for me.

Maybe this is doable by using different players somehow, and it perhaps already works, I've just failed to find/understand it.

Hope you understand what I mean anyway. :)

Subsonic does not support any concept of remembering your position in the playlist like that, so it isn't something I can really add. What I do is i create a bookmark within the playlist and go to the playlist and press play. You will get an option to resume from the first bookmark in the playlist. The only difference is you have to go to the playlist itself and not try to play it from the Bookmarks tab since that tab has no concept of which context you want to resume from (the last playlist it was in? the folder it's from? etc...)

Thanks for the reply! Couldn't this be local feature on the android device instead using Subsonics features? From my understanding the actual "active" list is local on the phone, not in the player on the server, that one only knows your current song. So it's a local "save/load state" feature on the device?

And if it's not possible to do with the bookmark feature, perhaps it would be possible to make it by using multiple "active" lists and switch between them, perhaps even by spawning a seperate player in Subsonic for each list ?

I'll have to look into the API to know how it really works on the server.

Yeah I could probably make it try to remember if you were playing a playlist when you saved the bookmark so at least locally it knows which context the bookmark is for. That wouldn't help cross-device synchronization, but it would probably be better than nothing.

Thanks again.

I wondered how the players work in Subsonic, is it possible for the app to have multiple players and solve the issue that way? I know Subsonic starts a different "player" for each device/browser etc, so each account have multiple players, and perhaps this could be an easier way to solve this by having the ability to "add" players in the app then switch between them, instead of messing with the bookmarks feature?

When I as admin check Settings->Players in Subsonic I see different players for the different apps/browsers for the same account, where I guess "DSub [xxx]" is the one used by the app, but perhaps it would be possible to spawn several players and seperate the active songlist and current position that way?

"Dsub1 [xxx]", "Dsub2 [xxx]", "Dsub3 [xxx]" etc
