AVsub slow to connect

Hi Richard;

First off, AVsub is great. The features such as jukebox and Chromecast control; ReplayGain, and bookmarks are very useful. It replaced iSub for me and gets daily use on my iPhone. However, it seems like it's taking an unusually long time to initially connect to my Subsonic server, both on my LAN and via 4G cell. I first tried it with my Subsonic alias (http://abdcef.subsonic.org, etc.) and thought it might be DNS hanging it up, so I changed to my direct IP and port. Either way, it tries to connect for about 30 seconds, then it either a) times out and tries the local IP, which usually - but not always - connects or b) finally connects. Thinking it might be a problem with my server setup, I tried connecting with the version of iSub that's still on my phone and it connected immediately, using the subsonic.org alias.

The general Subsonic log doesn't record connection attempts, so do you know if there's another way in either AVsub or the Subsonic server to see what's going on and why the connection is timing out? I occasionally, though less frequently, have a similar problem loading a playlist.

Thanks!

Charles

Hi,

do you have your media on a NAS drive?

When AVSub connects, it gets the root folder list, then the root music directories in the selected folder (or the default one if not selected).

I had an issue where one of the configured folders in SS was not available, and it took ages to respond to the initial AVSub requests. I tidied up my folders in Subsonic and the problem was resolved.

I've also found that selecting "Fast Access Mode" in Settings > Media Folders (Subsonic settings) helped with media on a NAS drive.

Let me know how you get on.

Cheers
Rich

I see - if it's reading the entire artist list from folders immediately upon connection, then the problem is likely the fact that my library is pretty large. That would also explain why iSub doesn't have the problem, because it's configured to only reload the artist list manually.

That might be a nice feature in AVsub - the ability to only reload the artist list when manually triggered, say by a swipe down on the alphabetic list.

Thanks again for a great app, and your help.

Charles

Hi,

I'll add it to the backlog of things to do.
