tags shown in iTunes, but not in subsonic.

Postby kdid » Fri Mar 16, 2007 10:25 am

Is there a way to let the artist, album, song, track and year tags set in iTunes also be shown in subsonic?

I just ripped an album in iTunes and when I displayed the tag information in subsonic, it did not show any tag information for the album.

Am I doing anything wrong?

Can I somehow tell iTunes or subsonic something to make them both see the tags?

What format did you rip to? Subsonic only displays tags for MP3 and OGG files, not AAC which is the default (I think) format in iTunes.

I found one solution, but...

I did go into iTunes and changed the ID3 tags to version 1.1 type tags. That allowed all the tags to be shown in Subsonic.

Do anyone know what impact this will have on iTunes?

Will I loose some tag information in iTunes by using ID3 tag version 1.1?

Anyone know what is the best approach here.

Is there any chance that Subsonic will grow to support whatever ID3 tag version that is iTunes standard tags?

Hm, I thought all ID3 versions should work in Subsonic. If possible, could you please email me (sindre@activeobjects.no) a file which shows tags in iTunes but not in Subsonic?

Thanks,
Sindre

I did rip to MP3 with 320 kbit/sek rate.

Thanks for sending the sample file. I get the same results as you. I've checked a bit, and it appears that the library I use for parsing ID3 tags (http://jid3.blinkenlights.org/) only support ID3 versions 1.0, 1.1 and 2.3.0. (Although I notice that track number set by iTunes is not picked up by Subsonic when using 2.3.0).

I'll consider changing to a different ID3 library in future releases.

Cheers,
