This is new to me, and I have a few questions

I setup subsonic on my home system in the attempt to share vidoes and music not only with myself while I am at work but with others as well.

This is new to me, I'm trying to read through alot of the posts here but I get lost in alot of the translation.

Simply put, I'd like to watch videos from my home setup while at work on my laptop. A few recommendations and some simple hints would be great. My home systems uses XP media and my laptop uses vista. My laptop has VLC but my home system does not (not sure if they both need it but I thought I would throw that out there).

I apologize if my newness seems rediculous but I'm very interested in learning the setup. Thank you

something else I forgot to add I figure would be useful information for those willing to teach a new guy, the files I would like to stream are mostly avi files.
