How do I do this?

Quick and dirty solution:

binary edit DiscogsSearchService.class (vi will do) and search for the DISCOGS_API_KEY: 53ee0045b6 and replace with your own key. Works only for 10 digit keys of course ...

Restart subsonic

Same here. Now I can't access subsonic trough my browser anymore. The system tray icon says subsonic is running, though. Attempting to replace the original DiscogsSearchService.class file from the one linked above didn't help either. :( Bummer. Any ideas? Both to fixing the original problem and to restoring subsonic to the functionality it had before this.

To be a bit more clear: When I tried to search for covers after I edited the file, but before I stopped and started subsonic, I just got the same search errors as before. After I stopped and started subsonic, I got the error described when I tried to access subsonic trough my browser.

edit: Doing a fresh reinstall of subsonic seems to have solved the problem for me. Still not able to search for cover images, though.

edit2: And trying over with the untouched file from the reinstall and changing the API-key worked! Yay! :D

Ok, I'll try to describe what I did, maybe it'll work for you as well. Remember, I have no idea what I'm doing, so follow my advice at your own risk.

First, to get rid of the error message we both experienced, I found no other solution than to re-download subsonic and do a fresh install. That should delete all your installed files, including the apparently corrupt DiscogsSearchService.class-file.

After you've re-installed, check that subsonic is once again working. Then, find the DiscogsSearchService.class-file (it's in your subsonic-folder somewhere, a search should locate it). It might be wise to take a copy of this file before you start messing about with it, in case anything gets screwed up.

Open the DiscogsSearchService.class file with a binary editor. I used a program called Frhed, found here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/frhed/ I guess any binary editor will do. In the program, select Find and Replace, search for the 10 digit API key (I can't remember the number at the moment, but it's written in this thread) and replace it with your own, which you get (at least which I got) from registering at discogs and searching around in there for an API-key. When the search & replace has done it's work, save the file, stop subsonic, start subsonic, and you should be good. At least I was.

Best of luck!

Glad to hear it. Now to solve the problem that the cover art search has added the wrong cover art for about 500 of my albums... :P

After I register at Discogs, I got a API Key with 10 digit decimal number.
Can i replace the key with the Decimal, or do I have to convert it to Hexadecimal befor i replace it in the "DiscogsSearchService.class"

Also using Frhed to seach for DISCOGS_API_KEY: 53ee0045b6, not found, but seaching for only 53ee0045b6, it finds....
Also tryed a fresh install..
I tryed first to replace it with the Desimal Key, but it did not work.

And I tryed to convert it to Hexadecima, and replace the Key, I got this error..

HTTP ERROR: 503

I have the same trouble when I edited the file, but I made a backup first and was able to restore back to the original file, thus never got an error message once I reverted. I'm not sure if a fresh install would work.

Instead of re-installing, I just used ACT-MP3 available in sourceforge and am trying to add cover art that way. Bummer, though, I would like it to do it automatically. Maybe a feature request to be able to drop in your own API key, or even better, to switch scrappers, would be ideal.

Thanks to bresmith for his solution.

Hi,
The infamous Discogs-bug was very annoying so I decided to try his solution. First I registered with Discogs.
Then went to the API-section of their site and got a Api-key there.
Since I'm using Windows I googled for "binary edit Windows" and found free-hex-editor-neo.
Made a copy of the DiscogsSearchService.class-file and edited it like Bresmith told.
Next I renamed the DiscogsSearchService.class files in Subsonic to DiscogsSearchService.class.old and then copied the edited file to the folders where the DiscogsSearchService.class-file belonged.
Next stoppped and started Subsonic and.... Hooray, the coverart service worked again.
So, Thanks again Mr. Bresmith.

I manually stuck my key in that .class file against better judgement..

Now I see this in my log after clicking "search discogs" :
Code: Select all
[2010-10-28 13:56:15,074] INFO DiscogsSearchService - Found 14 cover image(s) at Discogs.com in 1005 ms.

but the front-end doesn't show me any album covers to choose from.

EDIT: When I tell it go choose all the covers it works... so it looks like a bug in JUST the single-choice page. I am reverse proxying the stand-alone through apache if that makes any difference.

Any ideas?

My issues as well

Postby jameskeagie » Fri Nov 19, 2010 3:51 am

After reading about the new Beta, and finding that there is no batch image functionality for cover art - I figured I'd get this working while I still could.

I got a new API key, replaced it in the DiscogsSearchService.class file in Apple XCode. Why in the world XCode doesn't save it as a valid format is beyond me - it reads it nice and pretty (alot prettier than a hex editor) but evidently doesn't validate the new file. I kept getting the Error 503 messages.

Anyways - I finally edited it with FileCarver. (Textwrangler in Binary mode, Xcode, and even CE Java Class editor don't work....only a Find/Replace in Hex Mode in File Carver created a file that didn't give me the 503 error.)

So got it working - but as a previous user mentioned, single image lookups still fail (API key stored elsewhere perhaps?) but the bulk lookups work now! Hopefully inputting your own API key is an option in future versions instead of manually searching thousands of albums manually (which isn't feasible).

New users with new libraries never scanned before will be hesitant to use an app that doesn't have that functionality, although it was never a hanging point for me. From a new user - Thanks Sindre for all your wonderful work!
