Two issues. related to characters? (+ one more question)

Postby piethein » Fri Dec 03, 2010 11:32 pm

I have just installed subsonic on a fresh Ubuntu 10.10 Server. Part of my collection of audio/music files is in the directory '/srv/media/music/Music' in artist/album subfolders. This directory is the root directory set in subsonic. I have encountered two issues:

Not every file is shown when I browse the collection, specifically the mp3 files in '/srv/media/music/Music/Pearl Jam/Rearviewmirror (Greatest Hits 1991-2003)'. The search index statistics account for these files however. I have refreshed the browser and Subsonic for Android multiple times of course.

Whenever is search for a title in the directory mentioned above I get a server error. I wonder if these symptoms are related to the specific directory structure.

One more question is about Subsonic for Android: I cannot set the temporary directory to an external SD card on a Samsung Galaxy S, it is automatically set to the internal SD. Is it somehow possible to change the location where temporary files are placed?

Check for nonenglish symbols in filenames. Rename this files. Tags with a strange symbols work fine...

Go to settings / search index and manually update index.

Thank you for the tip. There do noty seem to be any problems with tags containing extended characters indeed.

I have just renamed the directory 'Rearviewmirror (Greatest Hits 1991-2003)' mentioned above to 'Rearviewmirror' and I can now browse to the mp3 files it contains in both Subsonic's web-ui and Subsonic for Android. So I suppose the problem was in the characters (or combinations) the last part of the directory contain, I would bet on the parentheses being the problem.

I have notices problems with 'strange characters in filenames as well'. If i browse to directories containing files with names containing accented characters etc in the web-ui these file's tags are not interpreted. I seem to be unable to pley these files however. Subsonic for Android cannot browse to these directories at all (server error).

I probably have been mistaken about the search index in the first post: it looks like some files (propably the ones with strange characters in the file names), are not indexed.

It would really be great if this could be fixed! What could I do to help? Could I do something (I am no Java programme ... :()

About first problem. Your directory name 'Rearviewmirror (Greatest Hits 1991-2003)' have a figure or other long dash between 1991 and 2003. Replace with a minus.

Android: I'm not sure but if you create link from internal SS temp directory to external SD temp directory my be solved second problem...

You are totally right! It is an m-dash, I had overlooked that...

Unfortunately the filesystem is FAT, so no symbolic links... Do not want to root devices.

It would be great if Subsonic would support extended character sets in file names, does someone know what the problem is implementing that?

edit: It appears the solution was already in this forum, shame on me for searching not so well... : http://forum.subsonic.org/forum/viewtop ... 6108#16108 if only asian characters too could be fixed it woul really be fantaatic!
