First song works fine, subsequent songs skip or stutter

Postby AbsolutZero » Wed Jan 12, 2011 11:31 am

I feel bad that my first post is a call for help, but here it goes.

When I choose one song and hit "play" then it plays through with zero problems at all. When I choose many songs and queue them up, all of the songs passed the first song skip or stutter. The first couple will have a small blank in audio here or there, but the further it goes, the more frequent (and longer) the blanks occur.

Are there settings I can tweak that'll stop this? I've only run this on 4g on Sprint so there should no reason why these songs have problems streaming but they do.

My settings:
Max bitrate (wifi): 320kbps (never gonna use wifi anyway)
Max bitrate (mobile): 160kbps (it was unlimited when the songs messed up, I haven't tested 160kbps yet)

Cache size: 1GB
Songs to preload: unlimited

I really want to donate and keep this forever and ever (once it works right, I'll be able to sell my iPod..a $20 donation to replace a $400 device? You bet I want to) but unless I can stop this annoying problem I can't justify it.

Please help. Do I queue and wait til they download before I play or am I doomed to go one at a time forever?

This is a commonly reported problem that, fortunately, many of us do not have. That said, I have an EVO 4G that runs all day without glitches on 3g. I can stream 320kbps and higher over 3g.

The most common problems are reported on the Moto Droids, but since you're on Sprint, I'll assume you don't have a Droid. After that issue, the most common problem that can be easily isolated is connection speed, and data transmission rates. If your on 4g you should have more than enough download speed on the phone provided that you have a steady connection. If the phones is good, the next thing to look at is your server upload speed.

Have you tested the performance of the phone on a known good server?

Has anyone else tested your server with a different phone?

The fisrt step is to isolate the source of the problem.

You can test your phone to see how it works on my server:
