Network/Internet IP Issue

Postby technomanstrand » Wed Feb 09, 2011 12:17 am

So I just hooked up my server and everything works great with in the network. However, Outside of the network Im blocked. I have my system setup with a service provider modem, to a wireless router, into my computer/server. The server has a local IP of the router 192.168.1... The external router ip is something completely different. How do I tell my router, to give my server a external IP so I can use it on the net?

I have a Linksys WRT54G. I have setup my portforwarding.

Can anyone help me get my Subsonic to work throughout?

Let me know if you have questions?

Thanks for your help!

http://monroeworld.com/android/subsonic/

Then open a port of your choice on your router, test with www.canyouseeme.org and if good, set same port in SS.

I'm having the same issues. Inside the LAN, I can see the server using http://servername.subsonic.org, but can't hit it from the internet (or iphone using iSub)

Running v4.4 on a Vortexbox (Fedora) appliance. I have changed the subsonic config file to port 8080, disabled automatic forwarding within Subsonic, and created an entry in my routers (D-Link DIR655) Virtual Server pointed to 8080, both protocols.

Can you see me reports "connection request timeout."

I've been trying for several days to make this work and can't figure out, any and all help is greatly appreciated.

It has must be being blocked either at the router or the server. Make sure your internal IP addresses and port numbers match in the router and that the port is open on the server firewall. I've never had to open UDP port to connect to SS. I would also try just doing the frowarding from the port forwarding screen in the D-Link. Remove the entries in the "Virtual Server" screen. Just define the single SS port in the Port forwarding screen. I'm not sure that's the problem, but it's easy enough to try.

Good luck.

Thanks for the response. I tried this, but still no luck. Is there anywhere other than the Fedora config file SUBSONIC_ARGS I need to change the SS port? Inside the LAN, I can direct to either xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8080 or xxxxx.subsonic.org and reach SS. Anything on the other side of the router is timed out.

Is there a way to trace where requests are getting hung up (router or server)? I really want this to work (and I've donated), but I am starting to think there's something I'm missing.

as always, any help is appreciated.

Router port passes canyouseeme.org for your port? Try rebooting your router after opening the port.

90% of the time it's the router. If you ccan reach SS internally, that means that SS is listening to the assigned port and responding when it gets a request. If you can't reach SS from outside, it's the router that's not allowing the request to get to the server. Reread your router manual and be sure your not missing something in the port forwarding definition. The first time you do this can be very confusing, and your probably just not getting the forwarding done properly. After more than 25 years of doing this, I still rarely get it right on the first try. Everything has to be exactly right or it won't work. Verify the internal ip address of the server, make sure the port number is correct in SS and on the router. Detail is critical, but once you figure out what's wrong, you'll slap yourself upside of the head thinking, duh, how did I miss that.

Hang in there, you'll get it.

thanks for the suggestions.

1) canyouseeme.org return "request timed out" when I try to hit the port.
2) I've been through the router instructions and D-link forums and can't figure this out.

I've been through the router and everything is correct. Reviewed logs to see if there are any hints there, but so far, I haven't seen anything that would prevent the port from reaching the SS server. Anyone familar with D-link routers that has any insight?

Last resort is to backup router config., restore to factory default, and leave everything except SS server and one PC on the LAN.

thanks again,

Try rebooting the router.

Regardless of what you've done, the port is still not being properly forwarded. Do you have any other applications that you can test to see if you can access a system within your network from outside it? Some router setups are pretty obtuse. Maybe a call to D-Link support?
