Long songs and podcasts stop playing without warning

Postby Orbitrix » Sat Feb 26, 2011 2:42 am

Nexus One running 2.3 Gingerbread
4.4 SubSonic server
latest android client

I've had this issue for as long as subsonic has been around. When i listen to a long podcast (90+ minutes) It almost always will stop playing the podcast at about 50-60 minutes..... almost on the dime... every time. No warning... no error message... it will still show the podcast as the active last played song, but it will be stopped, like it had actually reached the end and just stopped playing. (even though there is still 20-30 minutes left).

If i play, and jump forward to where it stopped prematurely, it will play just fine, and finish the podcast. But it s very anoying when trying to fall asleep to podcasts.... i dont want to have to get out of bed and start it playing again from where subsonic decided to stop playing.

They are normal MP3's being downloaded by the podcast feature in SubSonic. An example would be The Engadget Podcast or Rebel FM Podcast.

Anyone else experience this issue?

I experienced this all the time on CM6, and not just Subsonic, but other players as well (even Pandora, etc.) There seems to be a bug in CM6 (which may still exist in CM7) that kills audio apps after any given (and nearly predictable) time period. I just went to stock Gingerbread on both of my Nexus Ones, and haven't had the issue since! VERY happy to report that, btw...it was one of the more annoying issues with CM. :|

Unfortunately I am not rooted, or running any custom ROMS. I am running the stock gingerbread that just got released officially for Nexus One, and I have been stock always before that.

Now that IS strange..I was overjoyed to have my music wake me up this morning...wasn't possible at all on CM6. The only solution I can suggest is an app called SendLog..it will capture a log of all activity (slightly configurable,IIRC) and see if there's a specific reason the app is dying. Search it out in the market, and report back your results. :)
