ID3 woes

Postby cntrle » Sat Mar 05, 2011 7:39 pm

Hello,

I am trying to normalize my ID3 tags across my collection, however I realize now that subsonic doesn't actually use ID3 tags for anything. I am hoping that future releases will include better ID3 support, specifically the ability to Batch update ID3 tags by interfacing with one of the commonly available editors out there.

The issue I have right now is that even after I go through and update ID3 tags on my mp3s, subsonic does not register those changes, even after a fresh indexing. This is a bug and is hopefully on its way to being rectified. Does anyone have a workaround at this time?

Thanks,

Where do you not see the tags being used?

In my experience, the tags are used when looking at a detailed track listing for an album, when queueing a track to the playlist, when displaying what a user is playing in the "Now Playing" screen, when scrobbling, and when updating the search index.

When is it NOT working?

All navigation (the left pane, lists of albums under an artist, etc...) use the folder structure instaed of tags BY DESIGN.

My issue actually stemmed from an ID3 tag editor that was not correctly overwriting the tags.

I have since switched to 'id3v2' and all seems to be happy.

I suggest using MediaMonkey which will allow you to synchronize v1 and v2 tags as well as auto tag music via Amazon. There's other options but I've been using MM for years.
