Transcode on Download?

Postby gjriehl » Fri Apr 08, 2011 4:32 pm

Is there a way to have subsonic transcode FLAC files when they are being downloaded (not just when they are streamed)? My whole library is in FLAC and sometimes friends download an album off of my subsonic and it downloads it in FLAC and since they are technologically illiterate they don't know what to do with them. I'd like it to convert it to V0 or V2 on download (which I have set up for streaming). Is there a way to do this?

Not currently. A work around that is not to friendly, but possible, is to run the android version in an android emulator, and tell it to download the songs for you. The android version downloads transcoded copies.

Sorry, probably not what you want to hear...

is the Android transcode on download an API function, or is the app just taking advantage of native lame, flac, ffmpeg equivalents on Android?

Yeah I'm not sure where I'm going with this, I guess I want to know if one could build a frontend with this option, or more reasonably a hack to the existing SS frontend
