Installing subsonic on remote server

Postby regenpfeifer » Tue Apr 12, 2011 1:52 pm

Hello,

I would like to install subsonic on a remote server. I have only ssh-access. So I cannot enter http://localhost:4040 or something else in my browser.

Is there a way to install and configure subsonic via the console / terminal?

Thanks für your assistanve,

What is the remote server's operating system? If it's Linux, you can grab Lynx, a terminal-based web browser. I haven't tried this myself, just a suggestion.

Alternately, you can sign up for a free account at www.dyndns.org and register a URL to the server's ip address for a temporary solution. This is how mine is set up.

Or (again assuming linux) you can tunnel the X server (ssh -X) slow, but it works

but is there any real need? If you have ssh working then you already know your external IP or have a dynanmic dns address. all you need to do to get external server access is to open the correct port. Just manage port forwarding manually by signing into your router and forwarding port 4040 (default) to you headless box. then you can just access your server at http://yourip:4040

The need to fix the server locally is just to setup port forwarding and register the subsonic.org subdomain. you can skip it.
