stupid question (sorry) how to add music

Postby dan503 » Sun Jun 15, 2008 10:51 pm

Hi all,
I have had some on and off usage of linux but this program is new to me. (great program by the way.) my problem is, it cant seem to figure out how to add music to the subsonic server.
I am using:
debian etch
tomcat 5.5
subsonic 3.4

Also my linux box is a 400 mhz celeron and 128MB of ram. Is this enough ram or should I upgrade to 256MB (max the motherboard will handle). The server seems a little slow.
Thanks
Dan

Update: i tried to upload music via the subsonic menu and i get the following error:
Code: Select all
Uploading file

Uploading failed with the following error:
"Permission denied: /music/02 - Damageplan - Breathing New Life.mp3"

It appears to be a permissions problem but i used chmod 777 and chown 777 and nothing helped :(. I even tried to reset the server. Any ideas. any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dan

Update 2:
All Fixed I had the slashes the wrong direction.

I'm not sure what access you have, but it sounds like it's your box. It is easiest to just copy the music to the music folder you have specified in subsonic just as you would any other file. Since Subsonic is basically a file browser for music files (really any file you specify in options) it will immediately appear.
