Turn Off Album Art

Postby lny98 » Thu May 19, 2011 2:22 pm

Does anyone know the definitive way to turn off the displaying of the album art in the client web page?
1. I have set the cover art mask (Settings->General) to empty. Still displays.
2. Set the cover art limit to 1. For whatever reason, 0 means Unlimited, so I can't set it to zero. In actuality, I'm not even sure what it does because when I log in, I see 10 albums per page, with more than one album with cover art (which I'm assuming its getting internally from the mp3 (see #1).

Another question: Is there a theme with NO cover art?

Thanks in advance...

I believe that the limit applies to how many covers to display when you search for cover art. You can Select an album, then click on the Change link to select from the displayed choices found from the search.

I don't know of any easy way to turn off the display of the cover art other than to select on of the other available screens. Home and Playing will generate the cover, any of the other screens do not.

Other than that, maybe someone else knows where to edit the code to turn it off. This might also be worth posting as a Feature Request in that forum.

Gary... Thanks for the response...

I think the whole cover art thing is, well, for lack of a better word, goofy (I hope this translates well!). It's just eye candy, that unfortunately wastes bandwidth and generates boatloads of error text in the subsonic.log file.

When I'm listening to my collection at work, I know what I want to hear.
When I'm listening on my iphone or tablet, same thing.

I'm not staring at the screen trying to decide based upon album cover.

Regardless, it's an amazing product, especially for the price, but I just wish it would have a very basic, do its job mode: stream my music to me, with no wasted bandwidth or CPU/Disk IO.

When I'm at my desktop I usually just set up what I want to listen to then minimize the browser. There's no cover art displayed on the taskbar.

Fascinating, the differing viewpoints we all can have. I am a cover art nut, and if anything I woulnd't mind the Now Playing cover art to be a bit larger than it is. One of the big reasons I love SS so much is because of how art-centric it is, particularly when viewing all the albums underneath an artist. I guess cover art has dwindled in relevance as time has gone on --- before the early 1980s it was really the only way to 'connect' with an artist or an album, and the LP made it large/beautiful. CDs shrunk that a bit, and now "internet downloads" have made art inconsequential to some.

I tend to lean strongly to late-60's to mid-70's British progressive rock, however, which is an extremely album-oriented genre --- the cover art and lyrics were usually all interconnected.

Roundabout way of saying I love Subsonic, I guess :-) But can understand that perhaps some would prefer a toggle to turn cover art off...

@supra...

lover cover art as well.... maybe you unconsciously used the term "roundabout", as I spent many a 'hazy' evening a college (late 70's) under the Roger Dean poster from Yes's Fragile.
