confused about android

Postby kgreenjinx » Sat Jul 02, 2011 1:06 am

I have a HTC Evo and my wife has a HTC hero. Just installed and donated last night. Was working good now that we are playing with it more we are having a problem playing songs on her hero. Most songs just give a prepare failed error message. They work fine on my EVO. Any thought. I have played with the bandwidth as I have found on other posts but it did nothing. some 320 play fine and some 1152 kbps play fine. Beleive it or not, it seems most are at the beginning of the albums. Any thoughts on this? I have also already uninstalled and reinstalled the app.
Thanks

Test her phone on the demo site and my site below. Let me know the result.

the demo site tested fine. I am not sure how to log onto to your site to test. I am a rather newbie at this. I noticed the demo all had 128 kbps songs. maybe bit rate does have something to do with it. I don't know

Just dawned on me how to get her phone onto your site. Worked fine for the 5 or so songs i have played. I will keep flipping through and see if any mess up. Any ideas on what it could be. I know one aerosmith cd cde I have is in wma format. But the others that are messing up are MP3 format. Any reccomendations from anyone, let me know, thanks Would love to get this going for my wife. For now I guess she gets to use my new Evo.

These problems aren't always easy to pinpoint. Sometimes there can be several factors involved. With phones the download connection speed can be a big factor. Have you tested both over wifi and 3g? Does wifi work ok and 3g cause problems?

I've also done a lot of tweaking on my site to get good quality sound at lower bitrates by transcoding the music to ogg format. If you have high bitrate music in your library and poor 3g bandwidth, you will have problems. There's also the consideration of what format your library uses and how much transcoding is going on. What kind of hardware is your server on? What is your upload bandwidth from your server?

There's a lot going on to get the music from the server to the phone, and all of it has to be working well together to get good results. I've seen everything from firewall settings to antivirus software cause problems, not to mention router settings. Don't get discouraged though, with a little patience and testing we usually can get things working as they should.

Thats what has me so confused because it works fine on mine and about 50-70% of hers. It is specific songs that don't work on hers. I am going to try and convert the know songs that don't work to ogg and see if that helps anything

I have an EVO also and I know from experience that it really plays well with Subsonic. I don't have any issues at all, while you can see on the forums that many other phones, especially the Droids, seem to have all kinds of issues, That Hero ought to be just about ready for the ol' upgrade.

I can't believe your wife let you have a newer phone.

Yeah it is due. It is getting errors from your music. Green Day Dammit plays half then throws a Media player error. At least it played half of it. and we are on wifi now.

You also might check to see how much room she has on her sd card. If it's full it can cause problems as the music is saved to the card.

Nothing more fun than kids! My oldest heads to college in August.
