max bitrate for user vs max bitrate for player

Max bitrate is more related to a player than to an user. So 'max bitrate for user' setting seems to me a little bit confusing.

You can set the bit rate either way. If you assign a max bit rate to a user, then all the players that are created for that user will be limited.

On the other hand you may have a particular player configuration that you'd like to configure without restricting other players created for the same user.

Very flexible.

For instance, you may want to lower the bitrate for your mobile device, yet use the full bitrate on your desktop. By adjusting settings for each player you can do that. If you lowered the rate for yourself in the user settings then both environments would play at the lower rate.

I agree player max bitrate setting is very flexible and very useful. My point is about user max bitrate : it doesn't seem very logical to limit bandwith at user level since it is possible to do it at the more logical player level.

But it is a very minor point

It is a much more useful setting for setting a lower bitrate for a remote user that may spawn multiple players. My public site uses a guest account that generates a new player for each guest that logs on. I can set a bit rate limit for all the guests by just limiting the guest user account.

I don't use the bit rate feature as I have unlimited bandwidth, but it is an important feature for anyone who has an accunt that has useage restrictions or surcharges for exceeding bandwidth allocation. I wouldn't use SS in that environment, but there are users who do.
