Album Cover and artists list

Postby FeZ » Fri Jul 25, 2008 10:35 am

Hi,
im using Subsonic now for nearly one week and i have a question regarding Album Cover shown after i selected an artist from the left side list.

There is only one Cover shown, but i do have more than 1 Album of this artist within my folders.
Are there any settings for changing this? :?:

2nd. I cant find the interpret on the left side, but if i am using the search function i can find the artist and the songs.
Solution:  Check all Folders in the DropDownBox at the Top of the List.

Tnx for your suggestions and help in Advance
Regards

Hi there, hopefully I can point you in the right direction.

Album art:

Album art is stored in 2 possible places 1) embedded in file tag 2) a separate image file in the album directory

To make sure each album has its own cover art:

1) login as admin, select settings > general > cover art mask. Make sure you have the right file extentions entered in the text box (.jpg .jpeg are the most common album art extentions)

2) make sure each album has the art embedded in the tag and/or a jpg file in each album directory. I use Musicbrainz Picard to tag my files (option to embed art in file) and i also use google to search for album art then drag/drop the picture to the correct album directory in windows explorer.

3) You can also use subsonic to add album art by selecting the album and clicking "change" below where the album art is meant to be.

If you are having problems locating artists or albums in the left hand frame this probably means that the files are in a mislabled directory.

The left hand frame does not read the file tags only the directory structure of your music library in the format "/Artist/Album" so for example:

If i have a various artists album called "the best pop ever" there are a number of ways to organise it:

/various artists/best pop ever
/VA/best pop ever
or as sometime happens each artist on the album will have a separate directory:
/artist1/best pop ever
/artist2/best pop ever
etc....

For compilations and various artist albums I always set album artist as the name of the album so all music ends up in the proper directory.

also note that even if you have empty directories, subsonic will still list them on the left.

Always make sure you know where your music is...if you cant see it on the left use windows explorer to locate it on the disk and remember that subsonic always reads /artist/album.

I hope that helped somewhat.

Hi Iggster,
tnx for your answer.

suggestions 1 and 2 are made.

BUT:
I have my folder structure like that.

../music/artist/title - album - artist - tracknumber.mp3

and so i have more than 1 album inside my directory
maybe this is the problem.
