Any help on the below problem is greatly appreciated.
Problem Description: After creating a new music playlist, Subsonic is transcoding the initial song in the playlist multiple times before succeeding and moving on the the next song. Songs following the initial song seem to work fine - they get transcoded once and the Android player downloads the song, except if the player is left alone for a while and I come back and the next song to be downloaded is triggered (the current song ends or I skip to the next song). I've seen it transcode the first song 2-4 times in a row before moving on to the next.
Troubleshooting steps: The transcode executable that I'm running is a compiled Perl script (included in code block at the bottom of my post, hopefully I don't have a bug there) which works fine outside of Subsonic - it converts MP3's to WAV's to M4A's. It also works fine within Subsonic - all temp files get created as they should, Subsonic just runs the transcode multiple times as described in the problem description. I've tried putting some "sleeps" in the script at various places to account for any type of timing issue to no avail. I've tried to pipe all STDERR output to nul thinking that something was getting read in by Subsonic that shouldn't. I actually am getting an error message in FFMPEG, but I get it with normal operation even with MP3's that get transcoded successfully once - it's a "Missing MP3 header" error. I say again, I get this even when things work normally, and even when I run FFMPEG outside of Subsonic - my source MP3's were all encoded with LAME, (DLL downloaded from a link off of Audiograbber's website). FFMPEG is tripping up over something, I don't know what, but it's doesn't affect the sound of the final M4A file that I can tell. All that said, I don't thing this error message is causing an issue. Other than these things I've tried, I don't know how Subsonic works internally so I don't know what else to look at.
