Pardus 2011

Postby Merlinuk » Tue Mar 29, 2011 8:52 pm

Hello...
I have been using subsonic in windows for quite a while now, but recently decided to experiment with Linux systems.

After some careful thought I have gone for Pardus 2011, a very user friendly and GUI Linux system. However - only after installing it and after some playing have i found a slight problem.

It is unlike Unbuntu and other Linux distros as its custom built and uses a PiSi package manager which is unique to this distro.

Now i know the obvious answer would be to install another distro but I really like this one - but does anyone out there have any ideas on how to install subsonic to Pardus. I think it may require "package" building but as I am rather new to Linux my experience at this point is not sufficient.

I would like the option to run subsonic either from within a Windows enviroment or from my Linux distro.

Any advice or help would be gratefully receieved..

Apologies if there is an answer to this - i did search and could not find anything obvious..

I'm using the current 4.4 stable release in windows, and would like to have same in Pardus 2011..

Many thanks and kind regards

Update

Postby Merlinuk » Thu Apr 07, 2011 5:26 pm

I have now moved to Fedora 14..

However still having problems..
Managed to install the subsonic package and it claims to be running.
But i cant access it in the web browser or any where else...

After 15 years of windows i freely admit that whilst Linux is certainly worth the time and effort when it comes to installing stuff its not as easy...

Cant install the ffmpeg in transcode either...

Any suggestions or a step by step guide for based on the assumption im a complete idiot (which where linux is concerned i am not far off i fear) would be greatfully receieved... Im sticking with Fedora 14, Pardus is easier to install and set up, but the package manager whilst great makes getting non ported stuff very difficult. Beyond my abilities in the near to medium term..

Many thanks... :-)

A final update on this - i gave up with Fedora in the end.
Apart from Windows i now run Linux Mint on the old laptop and also as a dual boot on the main server.
This has solved all the problems.
Its a shame Pardus makes installing stuff so complicated as it is a great distro..

Keep tup the great work with Subsonic, its a brilliant.... :-)
