Transcoding live streams

Postby aTommyC » Wed May 18, 2011 7:10 pm

Hi!

Does anybody have any idea on how to transcode live streams?

Idea is:

Dreambox and other non-proprietary open source based sat tuners have the possibility to stream raw MPEG data to LAN. You can change channels via http requests, and also download an m3u file to use with eg. VLC.

Now, I'd like Subsonic to 1. Change to the channel I want to stream, and 2. Stream it.

Tried this with the Internet-TV/Radio links. They work perfectly on LAN, as they address the tuner directly, and redirects the computer to the streaming server.

But Subsonic does not transcode these streams.

So, for 1 to work, Subsonic needs to send the http request to the tuner, and for 2 to work, Subsonic must, using some transcoder setup, request the m3u file from the tuner, open the stream, and transcode it into JWPlayer.

Now, who's up for the challenge? :)

VLC should be able to do this just fine, I posted another thread asking about it .. I know people have integrated VLC transcoding into subsonic for other purposes, but VLC has the ability to use capture devices as input as well ..
