I have used windows installer 3.5.beta2 and I can not get Subsonic to work. Only a blank screen (http://localhost/) and no icon in the system tray.

As vista shows no Icon you need to be sure first that the service is running.
Go to the start bar and enter service.msc.
Look down the list to see if the service (subsonic) is installed and if it is running. If it is not running or not installed go to the start bar/ all programs/ find the subsonic folder and choose start subsonic server.

Then try to connect via local host.

Remember to open a firewall access rule for subsonic IF you will be accessing from the outside internet

Did you open ports in the firewall/
Do you have a popup blocker or antivirus?

My path would be as follows:
uninstall subsonic
change router to point to another port [8080 is to common] try 9000
disable avg
reinstall subsonic
point it to the new port
open firewall port if not
run subsonic and see if you connect.

ps if you changed the port correctly http:\\localhost will not work unless it is like this:
http://localhost:9000

PS I sent you a PM...
