"No media folders found" on encrypted harddisk.

Postby fn00dle » Wed Nov 09, 2011 5:53 pm

Hi all!

I'm running a Subsonic server (4.5) running on a Windows 7 Ultimate (64) machine. All my music is located on a separate, internal hard drive. I've had no problems with that, until I encrypted the drive using the Windows native BitLocker utility. Now Subsonic keeps on saying "No media folders found". Since this occurred after I encrypted my drive I take it it has something to do with that.

Server:
jetty-6.1.x, java 1.6.0_29, Windows 7 (37.9 MB / 57.9 MB)

Yep
Why you would want to encrypt your music folders :?
What path(s) are you using in SS settings/media folders?

It's not that I want to encrypt my media folders in particular. I have two internal hard drives in my PC, one with the OS and the software, and one with all my data. Some of the data is sensitive (private family pictures, financial documents, pieces of software with passwords to sensitive information) and I want to protect that in case my house ever gets robbed. :)

But regardless of the question why it is encrypted, I would like to know if it possible to read from a encrypted disk using subsonic. The whole disk is encrypted, not just some folders. Programs like Picasa, Synchronisation software and my music player seem to have no problem with this at all (I'm using foobar). :? The path I use to refer to the music folder is 'M:\Music\'.

Thanks for the reply anyway! :)

Ok I just wanted to make sure you were not using UNC paths as I believe that can have problems with encrypted drives.
Apart from checking that that the file path to your media folders is still correct within SS the only other thing I can think of is that it is a permissions thing
e.g. SS has not got permission to access your Bitlocked drive.
I dont use Bitlocker (got a large dog instead  ) so cannot help further.

For the people still following this thread: the music directory is set to "Read" for "Everyone".

And, I don't know, after two days of not working, all of a sudden all my music is appearing in Subsonic once again... :?

But anyhow, it works. I don't know how, but luckily I can use this nice piece of software again. :)
