Postby garrich » Sat Nov 12, 2011 10:22 pm

Hi I was wondering if anyone has been having an issue with skipping (ffwd) through H.264 encoded movies? It seems to not to work with the movied i have encoded with Handbrake high profile. when i tried a movie that i encoded with normal profile it worked fine..

Since your using handbarake, re-code a couple to mp4 not the default m4v. I have most of my library set to mp4 and does not seem to have an issue.

Thanks for the reply.... First i re-encoded a movie with both normal/and high settings, also each with m4v and mp4 containers. All played great with good pictures, but i was not able to skip through any of them. i aslo tried my Avi's (Divx,Xvid) they all worked and skipped. I tried a exisiting mkv file its also worked but when i encoded a dvd to x264 mkv container (handbrake default) it did not skip. So i think its a combination of HB encoding settings and ffmpg transcoding settings..... After about three hours of messing around I changed the ffmpg trancoding setting from -preset superfast to -preset ultrafast... now i can skip on all my files, however the quality suffers at equal bitrates. I have know idea why this works i know nothing about how to adjust the trancoding settings.....so if anyone can help with some ffmpeg setting strings/profiles/presets its would be appreciated. but for now i can live with the quality tradeoff. Thanks.
