Album Art pulling from ID3 tags

Postby Bracsith » Mon Nov 21, 2011 3:48 pm

I have been using Subsonic for quite a while now.

With one of the recent updates, my album art for folders started pulling the pictures of the ID3 tags over what I have in the folder. The folders used to work correctly, I am not sure what has changed. I have tried countless ways to get it to work like it used to.

Currently Under "General > Settings > Cover Art Files" I have listed what I name all of my cover art. I name it all folder it is jpg format, so in the box i have been putting "folder folder.jpg"

It works fine if there is no files in the folder, but if a file is in the folder with art attached to the id3 tag it always chooses the id3 tag over my album art.

Example of folder structure
Rock > A (album art in the A folder) > ACDC > Album

It will pull the id3 tag from the album folder and show it as the album art for the A Folder. or if there is a random song in the A folder, it will pull that first.

I just want to be able to control what album art is on which folder, and not have to clean all art off of every mp3 i have to make it work.

Help plz :(

Can you be more specfic :? eg What is your SS version?
Code: Select all
cover.jpg folder.jpg jpg jpeg gif png bmp

That's what I have in my cover art files "box" and that seems to work fine although i do no have many tracks with embedded art and when there is it's generally the same as the folder art.

using the most current, I tried the current 4.5 stable and the current 4.6 beta 2. Both do the same thing.

I am not sure which update it started happening, I listen to my music server on my phone only, one of my users mentioned that it had changed some time ago.

I am just unsure why it is pulling id3 tag art in the first place.

On my system I have found if it cannot find either cover.xxx or folder.xxx it will pull the first available art from the tags.
Be wary of the cache issue especially with the thumbnails. You can get the situation of 2 different images shown -small pic1 large pic2.
This is due to the Lucerne thumbnail creation and usually sorts itself out after a search re-index.

I tried fighting with the current files in the folders with no progress.

I did resolve the issue which seemed strange... several folders the "folder.jpg" picture was missing, so I took the required picture, named it folder then copy and paste it to the desired folder. I show all hidden files and folders on my computer, first off. When I put the new picture in the folder, windows requested that I overwrite the current folder.jpg that was already in the folder. So, curious as I was, I put another jpg file into another folder that should have had a letter, then renamed it while it was in the folder. Windows would only name it "Folder(2).jpg". It was like there was a file in the folder even though nothing was visible.

I was able to fix the issue by going to all the folders deleting the folder pictures if they were there then overwriting them all with the cut and paste option.

Thx BKKKPewsey for your help, it gave me several ideas to come up with the solution.

It seems you may have come across the famous WMP "feature"
That creates folder.jpg + other albumart images (which are usually wrong  ) and marks them hidden and system files.
