problem playing on 3G

Postby dookie » Wed Nov 23, 2011 12:42 am

My server is running on ubuntu 11.10. I have approximately 32000 tracks. While streaming to my Android 2.2 handset using the subsonic app, downloads suddenly stop or "hang". This only seems to happen while on 3G service (AT&T). While using WIFI, I don't seem to have any problems whatsoever.

I looked through subsonic_sh.log and see some errors and quite a few problems with creating thumbnails, etc... But I don't see anything directly related to a download stopping suddenly. Even if the 3G network is crappy, it should resume downloading as the network improves.

Any ideas? this is quite frustrating and nearly rendering Subsonic useless to me. I've included logs for reference.

Thanks!

It happened to me a few times on t-mo, try this increase the number of songs to "pre"-download on SS on your phone. I have mine set to 10 and have not had any more hic-ups since.

In Andorid SS Home> Settings > Songs to Preload >adjust
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Atom @ 1.60GHz, 4 cores 2Gb ram
6 Users

SubSonic 4.6 (build 2585)
2,575 artist
2,053 albums
16,090 songs
288.69GB (~4,484 hours)

Hmm. I'll try that. I have it set to 5 now, and my cache size is 2gb.

Upped it to 10. Still same problem on the very first song to download. stuck about half way, will not resume downloading.

In the log, I noticed this:

[11/22/11 9:07:44 PM EST] DEBUG InputStreamReaderThread (/var/subsonic/transcode/lame) Error writing mp3 output
[11/22/11 9:07:44 PM EST] DEBUG InputStreamReaderThread (/var/subsonic/transcode/ffmpeg) size= 9672kB time=56.15 bitrate=1411.2kbits/s
[11/22/11 9:07:44 PM EST] DEBUG InputStreamReaderThread (/var/subsonic/transcode/ffmpeg) video:0kB audio:9672kB global headers:0kB muxing overhead 0.000444%
[11/22/11 9:07:44 PM EST] DEBUG InputStreamReaderThread (/var/subsonic/transcode/ffmpeg) Received signal 15: terminating.

Actually, as I was typing this, the first song picked back up finally and finished downloading. HOWEVER, the next song started downloading and hung. has yet to restart. Actually, I'm not showing any 3G data at all, where I'd expect constant activity while trying to download.

Just as a Note, I can go browse the web on the phone, so it's not the data service, unless AT&T is screwing with me somehow.

right now, it's been hung for over 5 minutes.

So from your internal wi-fi no issues still correct? how about if you connect over wi-fi at a different location and it streams over the internet does that have any problems ( if this works then its At&T)? can you use your phones web browser to navigate to your SS page and log in form 3g?

no internal issues via wifi.

I can get to the actual webpage from 3G, but I could not play anything (could be the mobile browser, etc...)

I uninstalled and re-installed the android app. no difference.

I did try the "demo" subsonic server via the app. it works perfectly.

So, i'll be trying it over wifi shortly, but I'm leaning towards it being either my server configuration or my uverse network router... since I can use the demo server perfectly, I don't think it's att.

It COULD be the https settings, so I'll try changing that later to see if the non-secure connection works better.

Getting a little frustrating. I think i'll also try moving the server app back onto a windows system to see if my linux box is having issues...
