spaces in media folder name

Postby hasamba » Wed Oct 19, 2011 8:10 am

Hi,

just installed subsonic and its seems great, my only problems is that all of my files are on a network hd and the folders are: "shared videos" and "shared music", i cannot change the names beacuse a lot of programs use those folders already,
i tried putting in the media folder configuration z:\"shared music" and it doesnt work, i changed the service logon to administrator but still doesnt work.
any workaround? do you plan to fix that bug?

thanks
Yaniv

update: i just tried to make a local folder name: "test folder" and put in music, subsonic reads it!
so the problem is something with connecting to the network drive,
i tried the mapped drive and also the unc path (\\storage...) but both didnt work

any ideas?

just found the log file, it says:

[10/19/11 10:20:38 AM IST] WARN MusicFile Failed to create MusicFile for \\hasambastorage\public\shared music\Top Songs\Whitburn 1975

[10/19/11 10:20:38 AM IST] WARN MusicFile Failed to create MusicFile for \\hasambastorage\public\shared music\Top Songs\Whitburn 1977

what does this means?

Please have a read of http://forum.subsonic.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5506 first.
Knowing what OS you are running SS on would help :?
As you have already deduced (in 4 mins) Subsonic has no problem with spaces in folder names.
Has Subsonic got permission to read your network drives?

1. im using: windows home server 2011
2. as i wrote, i created a folder with space (temp folder) on local drive and everything was ok, therefore i assume that the problem is not with spaces
3. i gave subsonic service permissions to logon as user: administrator
4. sorry about the reposts :)
5. i can see in the log file that subsonic is reaching the network drive but doesnt import the media
Code: Select all
Failed to create MusicFile for \\hasambastorage\public\shared music\World\Rai

6. thanks for your fast reply

FYI, i think that subsonic have problem with mapped network drive beacuse when i entered the mapped drive, it didnt appear on the combo box on the left but when i entered the UNC path it does shown in the combo

In my experience if the drives are connected directly to WHS then e.g. D:\shares\folder works ok and is quick.
However any other drives do need full UNC paths.

i did put the full UNC paths but subsonic still doesnt reads them well, i can only see their subfolders but it doesnt imports the music under them.

for example: i have a path \\hasambastorage\public\shared music\top albums\rolling stones top 500 albums\"album name"\"mp3 files"

but on the left column, where the albums should be, instead of the albums i see "top albums" and not the albums in the subfolders

What is the path you have given SS?

If your directory structure is c:\music\artist\album\tracks you would point SS at the music folder.
Any other folder configuration can cause some difficulties. (As you are finding out  )

Try pointing SS at the "top albums" folder

I am very new to "Subsonic" and I am very pleased so far but I have run into a snag. Where I want this to be setup, I have a fileserver that hosts the data (40,000+ music files and 1200+ movies/tv shows) and I want my entire family to have access to this library from work, or on their iPhones, what-have-u.

Anyways, the problem that I am running into is that the fileserver that I run isnt nearly fast enough to host the Subsonic application, and it is running OSX Server 10.4 with a PowerPC CPU. Works great as a file server to both Mac and Windows platforms. So, the computer I am hosting this on is my main desktop (i5-2400, 8GB, plenty fast enough) is connected to the file servers media drive via a mapped drive (Y:).

When I add something that I have on the local hard drive to the Media Folders such as "C:\testmedia\music" it shows up and plays fine. But when I add the mapped network drive location "Y:\media\music", nothing happens. There is no errors in the log, it doesn't show up in the log that anything was added or deleted and most importantly it doesn't show up in the media list. Now, I know that the media works, because I just copied about 50 songs from the network drive onto my local drive just to test it out so the files are ok, I just can't get anything to load off the network drive, movies, music, anything.

I am wondering if I have to set something special to be able to read from a network drive, or if I am missing something else...?

Thanks!
