Problem with Folders & Subfolders

Postby mainadungo » Thu Nov 06, 2008 6:32 pm

Awesome product, first of all. I really appreciate it.

Second of all, I'm so sorry if this answer is posted somewhere... I have Google’d the heck out of it, and searched this whole forum with no luck.

All of my music in the following structure on my XP PC:
Artist\Album\artist - track# - trackName.mp3

Here is an example:<br>
Rise Against\The Sufferer & The Witness\The Good Left Undone.mp3

The problem is that Subsonic doesn’t seem to be able to inherently recognize subfolders. So at the top of the left hand side browsing menu where the number of artists, etc is displayed, I get this (even though I have thousands):
0 artists
0 albums
0 songs
0 B (~ 0 hours)

And on top of that, search doesn’t work (due to subfolders) and I can’t use the random feature, etc. These are actually the real reason it kind of bothers me.

I know this isn’t a big deal… Thanks for the help whenever you get to it!

My second question- I don’t think “replace album artwork” works half of the time. It doesn’t seem to pull up images on Amazon that are clearly actually on Amazon (I have gone to the website and checked). Is there a way to update the artwork manually from the web interface (not using a tag editor)?

One other thing (I’ll just lump it in here)- I can’t seem to figure out how to fast forward/rewind a track. I’m guessing there is no way to do that?

Thanks so much for this wonderful application!

You probably need to run the indexer to be able to search your library. Normally the indexer runs once a day. So if you are to search for stuff newly added or modified you need to do a manual indexing first.

Settings -> Search

The click:

Update search index now.

Then wait until it is done. You can follow progress in:

Help -> Log

After the indexing is done. You might need to refresh your browser to pick up the statistics.
----
You might need to refresh the browser page to pick up replaced album art after you have chosed one. Note that the artist name and album name sometimes must be very accurate to make the artwork be listed when you search amazon.
----
You cannot easily fast forward / rewind. But if you choose to use the VLC Player and tell subsonic to let the playlist be controlled by the player, then you can position playback inside the current song by dragging a slider. You do that in:

Settings -> Players -> Let player control the playlist?

But it comes at a cost. You cannot easily add to the current playlist. If you add to the current playlist, you will need to send it over to the player and in that process the playlist will be restarted.

Thanks kdid! The indexing did it. I don't know how I missed that. And I don't know why it took 2 weeks to do it on its own... Maybe because I have so much music?

Still having trouble with the artwork though. All of my tags are pristine. And even if they weren't, the tag "search" field is editable, and I can't get many results to show up. Maybe it's searching and "index" of Amazon's images, and not real-time...??? Well, it's not that big of a deal. I'll just stick with my tag editor.

Thanks again!
