Will not transcode flac

I have all the transcode files installed ffmpg, flac and so on, I have them in the transcode directory, they used to play but since the last upgrade there is no flac transcode.
I have the recommended ffmpeg -i %s -ab %bk -v 0 -f mp3 - in the command in the setup. nothing happens. When I check the log it shows nothing as far as any attempt at transcoding.
In fact the log shows nothing about playing anything, it just shows that subsonic has been started. All mp3's do play. Any help appreciated.
By the way I can convert by hand using ffmpg so it works.
