Subsonic not responding

Windows XP SP2 3 GB RAM.
Subsonic installs fine. Bring up in web browser and adjust settings.
Select music collection directory, a single-level (flat) directory of about 73K MP3's with embedded cover art, btw.
Bump up memory limit to 256MB and update search index overnight.
In morning, try to access via browser for song playback.
Firefox status bar just says "Read localhost" seemingly forever, while hard disc grinds in background.
At least an hour and no progress.
Is this normal/expected with Subsonic?

Subsonic doesn't work very well with a flat structure (having all 73,000 files in the same directory). You should consider structuring it into an artist/album/song hierarchy. This can be done automatically by tools like MediaMonkey.
