Subsonic doesn't ever finish scanning [Resolved]

Postby mediagato » Wed Mar 07, 2012 3:38 pm

Hello. I'm new here, lurked a bunch. 8)

Problem:
Updated my library this weekend. Now Subsonic is not working properly.
It is on an external drive that is not set to go to sleep and this was working for months.
I have tried re-installing clean and restarted both the service and the pc many times.
I've let it run overnight thinking that it might be because my collection is 500+ gb.
That said, I am an IT professional, CTS certified and this stuff should be working.
I suspect some kind or either Windows update or Java update that has busted my junk.

Error:
There is no error message.
It has said "The media folder is now being scanned. Some features are not available." for like 3 days now.
It says "Updating 0%" in the progress bar for a loooong time, then does nothing.

Anyone experiencing a similar problem? I can hit it locally AND over the intertubes.
The drive it's on fires up and I can certainly fire it up remotely so it's not asleep or falling off.

Specs:
Running - 4.6 (build 2583) – December 6, 2011
Playback via web (Chrome, Firefox AND Safari) and iPhone/iPad app
jetty-6.1.x, java 1.6.0_29, Windows 7 (45.6 MB / 104.8 MB)
Java memory set to 500mb in control panel

What did you do to "update" your library? If you added music, make sure that there are no symlinks (see viewtopic.php?f=2&t=8723.)

Well, to update, yes. I added music. I just plugged it into my mac and cloned my iTunes folder just like I always did.
I'm looking through right now and I don't see any symlinks. Thanks for the tip though. Still scratching my head.

Also, the songs I see in the log were not recently added.
I recently added about 3gb of Mozart and had wanted to update.
My Subsonic install is basically a backup of my itunes. I update about once a month.

Try temporarily removing the songs in the logs. See if those are causing problems.

After doing that and everything else I could think of I gave up on that drive.

I have since replaced my subsonic drive with my original iTunes drive and cloned the original to a brand new one.

So all the music goes in but there's still a problem. It won't play anything.

I thought it was a Java issue so I yanked it out and rolled back to the last (Oct 2011) update. Still no good.

It just doesn't work anymore and I have ruled out everything. Fresh install of Subsonic too.

What changed? Why can't I use this great program anymore?

Now it says javascript:noop() at the bottom and after a little searching I saw no answers as to why.
I've uninstalled & re-installed the browsers, uninstalled and re-installed subsonic, bought a new 3TB drive and still have nothing to show.

I'll be honest - I didn't fully understand what's going on after my first glance, but the javascript:noop() is normal. Perfectly normal. It means that there is a hyperlink with the onclick="" set, so the href is set to nothing.

I hate to say it but I may just bail. I'd actually pay $25 a year to Apple if their cloud would do what this thing did.
It was really great while it worked but something has changed. It wasn't this hard to set it up.
Thanks for trying to help me. I do appreciate that.

Moral of this story is never, ever, ever add music once you have it working I guess.

I add music all the time! Try uninstalling everything subsonic - the program, cookies, cache, and the folders it may leave behind.

Then, try reinstalling subsonic. We are here to help! We enjoy subsonic, and there is no reason you shouldn't too.

Give it a few more shots, and trust me, it will be well worth your while.

Aha!

After killing everything and stepping Java back to 6, it's good!

Whew. Thank you so much for all the pointers.
