Plebe alert

Postby poryorick » Mon Apr 23, 2012 1:23 am

I've had my Windows 7 host unit set up previously, but I recently replaced my ten y.o. Airport Express with a new model, and I'm absolutely lost setting up port forwarding. I've been trying everything I could find in previous posts, but to no avail, as yet, and I'm bordering on giving up and looking for other options. Help?

Can't help with router details unless we know the router make and model you're currently using.

Everyone is entitled to be stupid, Image but some abuse the privilege!

Due to the confusion from too many genres of music, we have decided to put both country music and rap music into the genre of Crap music.

Again, neophyte in the house, so forgive my abject stupidity, but while I have an Efficient-Siemens Speedstream 5100, I thought the AXn was acting as a router. Learn me, I pray.

I'm not an expert with Airport Express, but either device can act as a router and you have to make sure that only ONE is actually doing the routing/DHCP chores, otherwise you'll end up double NAT'd and everything, including me, will be confused. If you decide to ise the AX, make sure that the Siemens routing and DHCP features are turned off and merely acts as a modem to you ISP connection and passes everything to the AX which then handles all the internal network configuration.

HTH

Alternatively, you can turn off routing and DHCP in the AX, making it a WAP and let the Siemens do the routing/DHCP.

As long as ONLY ONE is doing the routing/DHCP chores.

DHCP and routing are turned off on the Siemens. I'm going to keep trying to make this work for another few hours before I wuss out.
