login from external PC HELP...NOOB

Postby sharkbait » Fri Mar 06, 2009 3:03 pm

I have set up Subsinic no problem and love it .
However I would like to invite friends to listen to my music across the internet.

I have changed the port in subsonic to 88 as somone sugested, I have used the no-ip service and set all that up, I can access it myself thru the external web adress but my friends cant..
I do not use a router

can anyone shed any light on this form me...
Can any one access my login page with either of the below links

http://82.37.49.12:88/ or http://musicreunited.no-ip.biz
I can access the login page myself thru the external web adress but my friends cant. I assume because its running from the same machine as im logging in.

Getting frustrated..

If you are logging into it from a machine within your network fine but not from machines outside the network, then it might be a port forwarding issue. Have you checked your router settings to make sure you have set port 88 to forward to the machine that is running subsonic? (usually something like 192.168.1.x). I'm assuming you use a router of course ;)

can you provide me with some information

Please visit http://www.mijnip.nl
this will show your real external ip number, check if its 82.37.49.12

then open a dos box (start->run type "cmd" press ok)
in the dos box type
"ipconfig /all" press enter
You will see an overview of your ip settings.
Assuming you have gotten a ip trough DHCP there must be a setting called DHCP server check this ip adress

Open internet explorer type http:// <ip from ipconfig>
use the ip mentioned at DHCP server in the ipconfig list.
This should connect you to a webpage of your modem/router or what ever it is you use to connect to the internet

Please respond with as much info on what you see on screen
brandname of modem/router, type etc

There must be some device between your network card and the internet

Sometimes your modem (especially if, with an added antenna, it has wireless capabilities) acts like a router, even though it's just a single device between your PC and the internet.

If that's the case you will need to access it's configuration like Gandohr was saying to set up the port forwarding.

that's weird. Maybe try contacting your ISP. I'd be frustrated if someone told me to do that so I don't blame you if you don't do it! :)

But is there a chance that they have disabled incoming activity on that port with some configuration from the modem? They might be able to shed some light...

Also - when you type that ip address from your computer in your browser (without the ":88/"), does it take you to a configuration page for the modem or not?

when i type in the ip adress in explorer it takes me to some wierd google page, in fire fox its a page not displayed.

the config page for the modems is 192.168.100.1 I used to work for them as an engineer so Im pretty sure its not to do with the modem itself or the service provider...

STILL AT A LOSS......: (

This seems to be your primair internet network connection
Its a bit strange having an ip thats in a completly different subnet mask then your DHCP server is, and having a totaly strange DNS server address next to that one.

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,16790794
seems your modem is no modem but a bridge.

i bridge just forwards all trafic going in and out of the box without any interactions.

So there 2 options

1) the data never makes it to the bridge (blocked by ISP)
2) the data makes it to the bridge and get blocked on your computer (firewall)

Open port 88 in the firewall and have a friend try
O shut it off let someone try and turn it back on.

So its your ISP that screwed you or its the window fireall
Like aphuey said contact them to ask if there blocking traffic

Hope i was of any help, sorry i can't give you a better answer
