Albums going missing

This is what is happening with the latest stable version of Subsonic:

Two Media folders have the same artist. In one folder he is named "Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes", and in the other he is "Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes". Notice that the only difference in the names is the capital "T" in The.

What happens when the folders are rescanned is that the album from the artist/album in the first folder is missing from the index panel. With the search function, the album is found.

If I change the "t" in the name of the artist in the first folder to a capital "T" and rescan the folders, the missing album now shows up with the album from the second folder in the Index panel.

This happens in both Linux and Windows environments.

In all these cases when the Subsonic media scanner has small hiccups (not finding albums, not realizing directories have been removed, miscalculating number of artists and albums, not updating library after scanning, corrupted database etc), I'd be interested to hear if you'd like to try out an alternative.

I've written a Subsonic mod for people with large music libraries, with added features and large parts re-written from scratch, including a custom media scanner. Maybe I've just replaced Sindre's bugs by my own instead, but if the oddities of 4.7 annoy you, it might be worth trying. viewtopic.php?f=11&t=10587

Thanks for the reply Hakko. I looked at your mod a little while ago, but I will look again.

Even though I might like your mod and begin to use it, this appears to be a bug in Subsonic and should be addressed.

You're absolutely right, you've found a bug and explained well how to reproduce it. It should be enough for Sindre to track down the cause of it and patch it. I'm merely asking for a favor - I find it interesting to see if I've managed to write a more stable media scanner, and then it makes sense to ask people who've run into trouble with the default implementation.

It's kind of a big step to switch between Subsonic servers just to address bugs, so I'm not expecting anyone to do it. I'm just curious if somebody has the spare time to evaluate it.
